Production Number Question

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knows the breakdown of production numbers between the Hamtramack plant and the California plant. I have a 1970 R/T SE 383 Challenger that was built in California. The numbers say that they built 2076 of these and I was wondering if someone knew how many were built at each plant.

Thanks,

Alan

Maybe Barry Washington can help you he use to have control of the cars that was built in the Hamtramck plant.

I can only confirm that the production number is as you say 2076 is for auto trans.
The total number of JS29N0*** is 2506 which of 30 was with 3speed manual and 400 with 4 speed manual.

But to split between the plants I don't know if it's possible.

I have not seen or heard of a breakdown from each plant. LA was a smaller plant and they did build fewer cars there overall though.

I believe LA only had one production line and Hamtramck had two. So all things being equal (and I have no reason to think they were) you would expect two thirds of Challenger production to have been at the Hamtramck plant.

Thanks Guys!

I just got my paperwork back from Galen, and it's number 10 of 39 in vin sequence in the Chrysler Registry. I assume that this is only from the Los Angeles plant. The vin number is JS29N0E111382, any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Alan

In my Swedish Challenger registry I have three JS29N0E with serial No.
102327
119185
129242
Non of them are in the sequens your car is from.

Other LA built Challenger's are
JH23G0E 14
JH23H0E 1
JH23L0E 5
JH23N0E 3
JH29L0E 2
JH29N0E 2
JS23N0E 5
JS23U0E 2

Of the 476 Challengers I have on register in Sweden is 37 LA build.

PeO- Thanks for the info, that's alot of Challengers over there!

I got a lead on a person who worked at Chrysler and was told he should have this information and if doesn't he should know who does. I'll keep everyone posted!

Yes of the 476 cars is 72 lost (scrapped or exported) including JS27R0B171715 (4spd) that was exported to UK and later back to US!!!
265 car has been used on the road during the last three years.

Five JS23R0B*** and one JS29R0B (still with the original owner that imported it 1974) is still running here.
Of the 15 T/A is four lost but the 11 other are still here (one for sale not long ago).

Yup, what Dave said. Not equal for sure. None of the convertibles, Hemi cars, T/As or AARs were built at the LA plant. They did make B-bodies there though. I would guess that LA produced less that 20 percent of E-bodies overall? Just a guess though.

I have not seen any Y09 - Export E-bodies from the LA plant yet either, has anybody seen one?

T/Ake care,
Barry
