Here's a mystery for you guys. My boyfriend has an old Challenger that some dumba__ turned into a drag car. I haven't seen it yet but boyfriend swears it's a '71. No title, no tags, no build sheets etc. Well, I told him he could find numbers on other parts of the car so last night he started looking (will look more today in daylight). He found on the door JS23K2B. What do ya think? Would there be any numbers anywhere else besides the cowl and radiator support? Will try to see if they are readable this afternoon.

Challenger, ?, 1972, built at Hamtrack.
Havent a clue what the K is for, this letter usually denotes what engine is fitted.

I found one VIN lookup site that said the K was for a Special Order 360, so according to those numbers it's a '72 Rallye with a 360. Boyfriend still swears the grill and tail lights are '71.

They possibly are Lynda, some people prefer the earlier grills etc. The rear lights from 72 on are good looking though.
Amazing, I have three VIN references here in front of me and not one lists a K!

In the last eight years of running the Challenger home page I have never come across a K engined Challenger. That was a 2bbl version of the 360. The only V8s available in the 1972 Challenger were the 2bbl 318 and the 4bbl 340.
As for finding the numbers on the body. There is only the cowl and the rad support. See this thread for details;

The door could have been from another car I guess?
(edit - I mean another Challenger and that would explain the lights not matching the model year)

Thinking on, I didnt think the 360 was available in the Challenger until '74. You might have a fairly unusual Chally there!

It seams to me that the (K) is a (G) maybe due to a rusty tag.They did make JS23G2B (RALLY WITH 318 C.I.) No 360 in 1972. (K) is used on
Chrysler models such as a Cordoba with a 360C.I. v8 starting in 1974

Mike I would put money on it not being a k engine but she says the number was on the door (I assume the door sticker) and there is no fender tag. Maybe she should look herself and see if her boyfriend made a mistake?
