Hi, just bought a 70 challenger thursday. I was decoding the vin tag and had some questions on some things. The first question I have is the vin is jh23ho8189xxx and all info I have show that their werent that many challengers built in 70. My next question is on the fender tag. I have a66 and m51. I show a66 as 340 perf pkg, does this mean its a rt.(has rt hood and bumblebee stripe). The m51 shows sunroof but their is none. Could this be mistake or do tou think its replaced and how rare is moonroof. I also have cn1, h4x9, 000 and q24827 on tag. anyone know what this is? thanks in advance.

Good to hear Lenny that you bought one, hopefully another "member" to this messageboard. You're right about the fender tag codes A66 and M51, M51 couldn't be ordered with a R/T (could already saw it's not a R/T by the VIN, JS would be a R/T, JH a "regular") so it's not a Challenger R/T.
M51 does mean it should have a sunroof, but I can't understand why somebody would get it out. So could it be that instead of M51 it reads M91 (luggage rack) k Can't think of something else. There where'nt many challengers equipped with a sunroof, so it would be special if you had one...
H4X9 means that you have burnt orange vinyl bench seats but I'm not sure about that. (DAVE?) and 000 means full door panels. The q24827 is the dealer order number. I can't help you with the CN1 but maybe somebody else can k
I hope this helps something!

Hello Lenny.
We get asked about 340 1970 Challengers all the time here. Do a keyword search for A66 or 340 from the link in the left frame. Also check out the 1970 page of my Challenger web site. If you found your way to this message board without finding my web site first just follow the link from the title page. You will find a full description of the A66 package as well as a VIN decoder and options list.
To help us de-code fender tag codes we ask that people print the whole tag line by line as it looks on the tag using CAPITAL LETTERS as it is on the tag. This is important as the POSITION of the code helps us to work out what the code is for and also helps to work out the codes you have copied down wrong like you have with your VIN (the 7th digit is a 'B' not an '8').
We will then give you a full de-code.
Although there were more Challengers made in 1970 than any other year your car is quite rare as there were only 6,933 made with the 340 4bbl engine.
That is 2,360 with an auto trans, 1,830 with a 4-speed and 343 with a 3-speed manual!
If it did have a sunroof it is very rare but we will see from the fender tag when you print it.
Be sure to check out my 'VIN Page' on my web site in order to find where the VIN is stamped into the bodywork just to be sure the car has not been given a 'new' bodyshell. That could explain the lack of a sunroof. Most likely is that you have copied down the M51 code wrong and it is H51 which is air-con.
Print the tag and let us see what you have.

I think you are right Dave-R. Went and looked at fender tag again and the although the first letter is almost impossible to read the car does have factory air.
Here is fender tag as I have written down;
26 CN1
H42 N85 R11 V9X Y05
G33 N51 M22 M25 M31 N41
V1X A01 A62 A63 A66 B51
FY4 H4X9 000 B13 Q24827
B55 D32 JH23HOB 189861
This is what the last owner told me. Said the car came out of Atlanta and was factory exec lease. Also car is now pink but he told me original color was Gold. I am the 4th owner and the 52000 are original and all documented. Here is picture of car.
http://photos.getauto.com/photos/23H0B189861.jpg Also is the hood on this car correct. Seem to me its a rt hood. Also interior is all original and is black so I dont beleive that the burnt orange code is correct. PS thanks for all information you have already provided. Also the car was advetised with the build sheet but now owner cant find and doesnt really seem to care now that Ive bought car.

Went and got the mail today and the last owner sent me the ORIGINAL window sticker (along with repo). Its pretty torn up but car has a lot of options..(I think that he thinks this is build sheet) Sticker says y22 corporate leasing car executive then later says W H Willkomm 435 30 2917. Was delivered to Holton Dodge Inc in Atlanta, Ga. Also shows options not on fender tag like s83 rim blown steering wheel, y21 special header and tag instruct, j55 undercoating and Hood insulator, g33 racing mirror, and g11 tint glass> just thought Id pass along. PS if anyone knows of A WH Willkomm let me know please. Ive also tried to find build sheet (no luck so far)

Cool. Sounds like the build sheet to me.
Just for everyone's information. I would expect tinted glass on this car because it was a must when ordering air-con. I don't know why you had to have tinted glass but there you are!

There is one in every class!
OK I should know by now never to say never (or always).
I will have to look it up but I think tinted grass was at least strongly advised and would have been automaticaly selected although I think there will have been a code to get around that for people like you Johnny
.
I will have to look it up at home now!
Mind you. It was not much of a tint. Barely more that the thickness of glass would have given it anyway.

Does anyone out there have a copy of a window sticker for a `70 Challenger SE.
Mine is a 383 Magnum,4-speed,factory air
and I am putting some odds and ends for it
together.
The copy would help a lot to `generate`
a repro for this car.
Thanks, Jens

The only documents that should be with a Mopar are the original documents or direct copies of those documents.
'Generating a repro' is open to abuse and although you may well be totally honest there are plenty of others out there who are not and we will end up with documents like these showing options on cars that were not original to the car. I hate this practice of making sh*t up!
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE CARS DOCUMENTS DO NOT PRETEND YOU DO!!!!
One of my pet hates BTW.

Well, I do of course have the build sheet and the
fender tag! This is not my problem. What do you think?
Yes, I am an honest person and my plan is not to make things up, O.K.? This is about a showcar
and I am just looking for a generic look of a window sticker because I am interested in what the
car looked like when it came from the factory.
I wish this message board would be more neutral to
newcomers like me and not have an attitude!

Sorry. I do have an attitude! But it is mostly because e-mail does not convey what is behind the (sometimes bad) English. Also most Americans do not 'get' the British. Just because we speak (almost) the same language it is easy to forget we are from totally different cultures. We do not always find the same things funny or rude for example. It does help to be a bit thick skinned around me though I do admit.
And people that do not follow the instructions to start a new thread and just tag onto the end of another thread instead are going to put themselves out of favor with me anyway!
I am nice really! But I have to make a stand on points like this so please forgive me.
OK I know what you are trying to do with the display and all that and I know I sound like I am making a mountain out of a mole hill but I still stand by what I said.
To my mind a car is only original once. So are the documents that relate to that car. If you wanted to make copies of adverts or Dodge memorabilia in general that is fine by me but anything that is specific to that car should not be made up. To my mind you may as well add a non-original option to the car and fake that. Same thing to me.
Here is an example. In my book collection I have a few old books and a few of them are rare. Some of these rare ones are even 1st editions. Now one of these 1st editions has an original paper cover with it. I know that that cover is off a later edition of the book because I took it from that book and placed it on the 1st edition. No one will ever know as they look the same. But the value of that 1st edition has increased substantially as a result of me doing that.
If I ever sell that book should I tell the buyer that the cover is not original to it? Would he care? Does it matter? Should I swap the cover back? Have I 'restored' the book or faked it's originality? Or am I just trying to profit in some way?
Now I know this thing you are talking about will not add value to your car. But may get you a win over someone else's car in a show if the marking is very close. So in a way you could profit in a way.
I can't stop you doing it anyway but as this is my place and as it runs by my rules I have to state my position. Call me a grumpy old bugger if you want. I can take it!
If you had put your e-mail address in the box you are supposed to (gosh I am grumpy aren't I?) then someone could have clicked on your username and sent you a reply directly. Anything posted here that allows car specific documents to be forged will be deleted.
So there!
I do go on a bit don't I? I'm like an old woman sometimes.
Does anyone agree/disagree with me? Am I just talking bollocks again or do I have a point? Feel free to have your say!

Thank you! The idea behind the sticker is only to
add some memorabilia to my little and sometimes narrow Challenger world. I am not planning on making money on this since this is my hobby and not my job.
Oh, and by the way: I am completely german, moved
to the US 3years ago and just discovered the big
exciting MOPAR muscle world.

Can someone answer if a February 1970 hemi car could have a November 1968 casting date. All other stampings including vin and 10,000 day date appear original and untouched as do dates and codes on all accessories. Could an engine from the back of the rack been pulled for use (i.e. any supply issues around that time)
