question on fender tag

Postby cranker » 13 Mar 2005 22:29

I just got a 72 challenger and was looking it over and niticed the fender tag. I wrote down all of the numbers and the i noticed the last numbers in the lower right corner of the tag reads JS23H2B380986 and the vin is
JS23H2B180947. shouldnt the last 6 digits be the same as the vin.. I also scored the broadcast sheet from behind the rear seat and it matches the vin. Can some one pint me in the right direction to find a link to decode the fender tag or the broadcast sheet.. Thanks for you time...

Those numbers on the tag ARE the VIN and it should match the VIN on the dash and the broadcast sheet. The last 8 digits should be stamped into the engine/trans and the cowl.

See this thread here http://challenger.mpoli.fi/forum/viewtopic.php?t=818

It looks as if you have a tag from another car built much later.

What is the build date on the tag and what is the date on the broadcast sheet or door jam sticker?
