Postby HemiRat » 22 Dec 2004 20:49

HI !

Have a Y39 in my tagcode ( 71 challenger RT , swiss schinznach car )

Have asked in US and here... Nobody knows what it means exactly.

I know it means special order, but what is special ordered ?

Does anyone else has this code ?

Its in the 2e tag in this set up line :

R26 radio cassete V68 delete stripes Y39 = special order 26 =inch radiator EN2 = end of second shift build

Well anyone ?? :?:

Thanks in advance !

We have discussed the Y39 code once before ( http://challenger.mpoli.fi/phpbb/viewto ... ?p=459#459 ), but we didn´t manage to solve the mystery then.... :worry: We´ll give it another try then :s025:

How about posting the complete fender tag info? It may give some clues....

Y - Exterior Dressup Codes
(According to http://www.cudaworld.com/fendertags/y.htm )

All 300-H's had code Y39 listed on their data plates and broadcast sheets, which indicated the presence of the "Special Order" paint/decal scheme and body panel components.
(According to: http://www.saskmoparclub.ca/ddsummer2002.html )

I think this information give us hint of what the Y39-code stands for. :s025:

Not sure, but I wonder if Y39 has something to do with the exported cars with high impact stripe packages. Such as a Panther Pink Challenger with a flourescent pink stripe. I've seen a few other combos and these were only available on export cars.

Y39 may apply to exported cars because of the destination country's requirements, but I have a Y39 car that was first sold in California, my R/T SE. The paint code on it is 999 because it was ordered with a Chrysler Imperial-only color, A9 Charcoal Iridescent and in order for it to be painted that color, it had to have been special ordered according to the MOPAR paint chip sheet from 1970. My opinion is that Y39 was applied to anything that was outside the bounds of the standard order sheet at the dealer.

My R/T SE also came with the code Y14, "sold car", and a friend of mine has a 1969 Road Runner with 999 and Y39 that was painted some kind of special orange color. I can't remember the color's name, sorry.

Where do you find the colour-code on a Y39/999 car? On the broadcast sheet? (I presume you don´t find it on the fender tag!?)

Special order paint also had it's very own code, V09, but the color code does not appear anywhere on the fender tag for a 999 car. I feel safe in assuming the color would have to be noted on a build sheet somewhere, but cannot say for certain as I have never seen one for a 999 car. I was only able to determine my car's original color after 8 months of detective work both on line and in paint shops after finding the original color under the weather-stripping and matching it up to paint chips from two different shops records. To sum it up, my car's fender tags have a 999 where the body color code is normally found and the V09 (special order paint), Y14 (sold car), and Y39 (special order) codes are all listed alpha-numerically in the last two lines of codes. Please remember that we have already noticed that where the vinyl roof codes were placed on the tags does vary from plant to plant and that what was done in Los Angeles might not be what was done in Hamtramck.

Broadcast sheets for 999 paint cars just say 999, no mention of the actual color. :hmmm:

Yeah you really need to find a bit of paint on the car you are sure is original so you can get it matched.

If you do not want to disturb the weatherstripping, you may find the original color on the back of the fender tag or tags - something that hardly ever gets repainted. These got some paint on the line when the inner fender was shot before the second screw went into the tag to hold it down. If so, take the tag to an automotive paint shop and start hunting through chip books. If your 999 paint is not Petty Blue or something easily recognized like that, I suggest you check the C-body color chips for your color - that's where I found my color.
