1970 Dodge Challenger

Postby Sara Burgin » 30 Nov 2004 17:01

I am looking at purchasing a 1970 Dodge Challenger, the information I know is that it was built in 1970 in Hamtrack. It is a 426, automatic painted citron mist ird. Making it one of 37 produced that year. Is there any source out there that could tell me when it was shipped from the factory what dealership it went to?

I take it this is a 1970 R/T SE (JS29R0B) and not a normal R/T hardtop (JS23) of which there were many more built?

Yes there were 37 USA spec 426 R/T SE cars shipped. There were also 3 Canadian. I have the shipping details of all the Canadian Hemi's but not the USA shipped.

On the fender tag there is a dealer order number. Some of this boards members might be able to tell something from that. The order number is the last number on the second line from the botton of the tag. Just above the VIN which is on the bottom right of the tag.

Just before the dealer order number is a three digit code which is the scheduled production date.

Citron mist (Y4) is not a normal 1970 colour that I know of and must have been a special order. Possible 1 of 1?

All the Hemi Challengers were built at Hamtramck.

If you have a JS23R0B you got incorrect information regarding production qty. I don't know where you got the qty. of 37 cars??

1970 R/T
JS23R0B Manual 4spd Total 156 (137 for USA and 19 for Export and Canada)
JS23R0B Auto Total 169 (150 for USA and 19 for Export and Canada)

1970 R/T SE
JS29R0B Manual 4spd Total 26 (22 for USA and 4 for Export and Canada)
JS29R0B Auto Total 41 (37 for USA and 4 for Export and Canada)

1970 R/T Convertible
JS27R0B Manual 4spd Total 8 (5 for USA and 3 for Export and Canada)
JS27R0B Auto Total 7 (4 for USA and 3 for Export and Canada)

Dave can you correct me if I'm wrong in these qty!!! :s020:
Is the export cars qty. splitted regarding trans type or is was it only according VIN first identification?
