A66 code

Ok, now after reading some other posts, I am confused. Someone explain to me exactly what the A66 340 Perf. Package came with. I understood it DID come with bumblebee stripe and 15" rallyes. I have read other places that it came with 14" and stripe delete?

AH!

Now I see why you are confused!

On the dealer brochure http://challenger.mpoli.fi/phpbb/download.php?id=117 it says 14" wheels and tires.

I give up! Now i am confused! What did the A66 come with? :?

HELP!

Hehe, don't you just love it when you can stump the "pro's". That brochure is interesting in a couple of other ways. It may answer someone else's post earlier, regarding what size radiator the A66 came with. The bro does not state that the A66 came with an upgrade to the 26" radiator, therefore assuming it still had the 22". In addition, the A31 and A36 packages, both optional to the 340 engine, included 26" upgrades.

A couple of other observations, all of the A66 cars I have seen have had the 14" tires/wheels. Of course they could have been changed out, but why would anyone go from 15" to 14"? They have also all had the chrome tips and flip up gas caps. Of course these could have been seperately ordered options, I guess.

You know, I have drawn a conclusion from all of this....you can drive yourself CRAZY trying to figure out the manufacturers. Then, when you think you finally have figured them out, you have to throw the guys on the production line into the equation. They were liable to do anything, on any given day, to keep the line moving.

My info says 14" wheels.

I also checked one of my original broadcast sheets for a 1970 A66 car and found;

Bumble bee stripe.
No wheel lip moldings
N65 Torque drive fan
Radiator 74 - 26 Inch ( Non AC car)
3:23 gears with sure grip
T87 - F70 X 14 RWL tires

I have another one here for an A66 convertible, V98 stripe delete, but the other codes are identical to those posted above except for a 3:55 suregrip.

Here is a photo of the A66 info from my 1970 Dodge Data Book, page 116.

I forgot to check the first time around, but neither of the A66 cars that I have the broadcast sheet for is coded for the J46 flip top / locking gas cap.

Actually i was thinking about this last night when I got into bed (as you do) and I seem to remember we worked this out ages ago on my old message board and I had just forgotton all about it??

I might be mistaken though. I do remember I had one or too mistakes to put right on the 1970 page on my web site. Trouble is I keep forgetting what they are.

I am trying to find out where I got 15" wheels from in the first place and I cannot find the reference I got it from. I don't think we can blame Paul Herd this time as I don't think he mentions it in his book?

I found a reference to 15" wheels in Sessler's "Red Book" but I know I didn't get it from that. :? So where did I get it from?

Heh heh, don't worry Dave, it's probably just a sign of age! I have just emailed the owner of an A66 car I know. Maybe he can shed some light too, based on his knowledge of his car. Funny, though, the picture Alaska posted, of his data book, states the Scat Pack decal as being on the "rear quarter panel". Either they are confusing the Challenger with a Super Bee, or they meant to print "rear quarter window", huh?

Do I have your collective permission to confuse things even more? Did the A66's come with 14" Rallye's, or 14" Road Wheels (Magnums)? I have seen both, with the greater number being Road Wheels.

How intresting discussion this is, eh? :)

This info is from my Red book (P. Sessler):
A66 Challenger 340 4V Engine package (NA R/T, W21 & W34 required)

The question I sak myself is if W21 & W34 really is required or not? If it is true that these options are required, then the 14" Rallye´s is the only possible answer to the question below. :?

LOL....we had better stop now, or we may cause Dave to have nightmares in this sleep! That's interesting though Christer. And I like the Rallyes the best, so I am going to say it was the Rallyes that came on the A66. 8)
Now all I need is a Challenger to put them on. I am on the hunt.

Let me look again....

Both A66 broadcast sheets I have list the "89" caps , which is the dog - dish with Dodge triangle and redline perimeter.

I get the feeling that W21 & W34 were NOT required (ay least W21) in opposite to what is written in the red book.

Usually the V-8 emblems are found on 318 cars. Is the car an export car? Is there anything else odd about it at all? Can you possibly post a photo of the fender tag?

Thanks,
Barry

Barry thanks for the reply.

No the car was not an export. I imported the car about 3 months ago from california. Something that i think is odd is that it has a flat hood (standerd)

Sorry but I cant post a photo of the emblem. I have the vin/code numbers if you would like to have a look. Will get photo soon....

A01 light package
A66 1970 only challenger 340 performance package

If you look at the other threads in this section you will find many examples of the codes you want.

Now for the A66 thing. Are you sure the fender tag and VIN on the dash match and do they match the numbers stamped into the cowl and radiator support?

Again you should work through the other threads in this section to find out more information.

I can´t find any information about E98 and CJ6

PostPosted: 28 Oct 2004 9:34
by dave-r
They may have been copied down wrong which is why it is so important to show what exact position on the tag the code is. That way we can make a good guess what the code is for because even if it is not one of the codes that has an exact place it will at least be in alphabetical/numeral order.

Always set your code tag codes out exactly as they appear on the tag!

Yes all the numbers match from the rad support, the plate on the dash the sticker in the door and on the cowl.

PostPosted: 28 Oct 2004 15:34
by Kevin
FK5=Burnt Orange (paint color)
H6K4=High trim, vinyl buckets, burnt orange color (interior)
000=No paint on upper door panels
040940=Depending upon it's location on tag, it's probably a productionline sequence number, no relationship to VIN#

That is odd that it would be an A66 code car, but have a flat hood. Dave, or anyone? Maybe someone pilfered the "performance" hood and used it on another car?

Thanks Kevin.
The full vin # is JH23H0E108839
rad support # is 108839
cowl # is 108839

With the hood it is 100% original. The hole car has original paint.

Thank you for your help with the other codes.

Glad the numbers work out. I was worried there for a moment!

It is very unusual for a 340 package car not to come with all the bits in the package!

Dave.
I have a feeling that maybe when the car was brought new the buyer could not afford the cost of a fully option car but wanted a 340 so they had some of the options deleted to bring the cost down, Just a thought.

Can you please post the fender tag info like in the example below, aarcuda? Just to kill my curiosity.... :P

Example:
Y05 26 EN1
N41 N42 N85 N94 V6?
TX9 A33 A62 C55 J45 M21

Or maybe they couldn't see over the rallye hood? I am 6'1" and cannot see over the hood!

Christer.

The code plate is as follows:

26END
N41 N42 N95 R11 V1W V98
V1W A66 B51 C16 C55 M21
FK5 H6K4 000 A01 040940

Ok. Now we can see a few things.

First of all you don't have either CJ6 or E98 on the tag at all! You had already correctly identified C16 as being the center console in your first post.

FK5, H6K4, and 000 have already been identified for you.

26 is the bigger than stock 26" radiator.

END just means end of tag codes but also identifies this car as being built at the LA plant because Hamtramck cars all end either EN1 or EN2.

040940 is the dealer order number.

Oh. Forgot to say that V98 is a deleted tail stripe.
