Please welcome a new member to the board....me! I have never owned a Challenger, but will one day :) I have loved them since I was a kid, when a neighbor bought a new '70 383 R/T in FC7! My questions:
1) Does anyone know the rarity/production numbers for the "A66" code
in '70?
2) Does anyone know the rarity/production numbers for the TX9 paint
in '70?
Thx for a great website.

Dave, et al, I just realized that Dave had posted some productions numbers in a recent post. Unfortunately, the second page is too fuzzy to read. Also, the figures for the JH23H cars do not add up. The numbers are off by 2400 from the total, yet it looks like 4533 JH23H's were made. Am I too assume that, if the fifth digit is an H, then it must be an A66 car?
And what about the color production numbers, anyone?

I currently own an A66 Challenger and have had 2 others. I have yet to find any real production figures. I'm sure they are out there somewhere. Hopefully someone knows. I get the feeling that the A66 Challenger has yet to catch on with most of the Mopar fans. It's a rare car with some great options. It deserves the same respect as the R/T.

Those production figures on this board are correct for USA spec Challengers. The reason the numbers do not add up is because by mistake the number of T/A 340 cars has been added to the total.
So deduct the T/A cars and it all makes sense.
All the non-T/A cars are A66 so there are the numbers you are looking for.
I don't understand why you cannot read the images. You are clicking on the image to get the full sized version yes?
Once the full size image comes up some web browsers re-size the image to fit the screen. If it does this you can hold the cursor over the image and a box will appear in the bottom right corner of the image that allows you to view the image full size. Or you can turn re-sizing off in the options.

Dave, et al, does anyone have color production numbers?

Not really. Chrysler only kept rough percentages on options like that to keep an eye on trends. i.e they might say 1.8% of all Challengers were painted this colour. That way they could decide if a colour (or any other option) was worth offering.
Some people have tried to extrapolate figures from these percentages but to be honest they are so inaccurate when it comes to the low production options they are worthless.

Thx for the replys Dave and JH23. And JH, I agree with you. I don't know why the A66 (or H code) cars have not caught on, like the 340 'Cudas for example. Maybe it's because they don't share the R/T designation. Afterall, an H code is basically an R/T, but without the big block and R/T emblems.
I was wondering something else. If all H code Challengers are A66 cars, then why bother to have the option A66 at all? I mean, if there were other Challengers produced that had the 340 engine, but not all of the other components in the A66 package (for example), then I could see the need. Seems to me, though, that the fifth digit H code and the A66 option code are one in the same. Just thinking out loud.

Because the 340 was considered quite a performance engine you got it with a package that matched the suspension and brakes to the performance of that engine. So you needed an option code for the package.
There are some differences between the JH and the JS chassis. But as far as I can tell only on the 440 and 426 powered cars. The 383 seems to be exactly the same chassis and body as the 'normal' JH.

There were 6933 JH23H0 cars made - 343 with 3-speed manual, 2819 with 4-speed manual and 3771 with automatic transmissions. Please don't forget that the 264 JH27H0 cars were also eligible to have the A66 340 Performance Package added as well, but I really doubt that every last one of them got it because I have seen 1970 340 Challengers with flat hoods and plain rear valences. Also, the A66 could not be ordered with the SE package according to the 1970 Dodge models and prices book. According to GG, there were no JH29H cars made. Does anyone out there have one?

Hi,
Sorry to come so late with that question but where do those figures come from ? I currently own one of the 2819 A66 4-speed and would like to be reasonably sure there was so few of them. Thanks for your help.
