I was just wondering if it seems possible for a 340 4 speed A66 Performance Package equipped car to come with only a 22" radiator? anyone, anyone :)

A 26" radiator is not a stated part of that package.

Thanks... one more question though..

..if the car has a performance axle ratio (3.91), that doesn't necessarily mean it came equipped with the "Performance Axle Package", or does it? The reason I ask, is that according to what I found, the 3.91 option requires heavy-duty cooling...so does that mean 26" radiator, or could Dodge just have put a deeper 3 core into a 22" opening? I'm thinking the gears are not the correct ones for the car. I would just like to ensure it's built correctly. Thanks

There was no deeper core radiator.

High Performace Axle Package (A31) is what you need to look for on the tag and/or build sheet.

Available on 340 or 383 4bbl cars. Includes 3.91 axle gears with Sure Grip, max cool radiator (that's a 26 incher I believe) with seven blade fan and HD suspension.

If it has not got A31 I don't think it came from the factory with 3:91 gears. I know some T/A cars came with 3.91s but I don't know if they had A31 on the tag or not. Barry will know. You reading this Barry?

I have a Challeneger with the A31 High Performance Axle Package and you do get all the goodies; 3:91 axle ratio Sure Grip, 7 Blade Torque Drive Fan, 26" Radiator, Hemi Suspension etc, etc.
Hope this helps
By the way, this is my first post but I've been viewing this very helpful site for a long time.

Thank you Paul. That is helpful.

I don't think you could get those gears any other way from the factory except with that package but I have been wrong about this sort of thing before so I wait with baited breath for someone to correct me.

Thanks for the input! Anyone here own an A66 optioned car???

I will just assume that someone swapped the gears out then. I just wanted to double-check on the definition of the HD cooling package that's part of that 3.91 option... I figured it would mean a 26" radiator. It still seems weird that a performance package like the A66 would come with only a 22" opening, but I guess back then nothing was written in stone when it came to options.
thanks again... does anyone on this forum have an A66 car???

It would have had "26" stampded on the tag if it came with a 26" radiator.

Have you searched all over the interior to see if you have a build sheet for the car or not? Under the rear seat and in the back of the front bucket seats etc?
A code for the original axle ratio and radiator will be on that.

Big Rob,
I've got an A66 Challenger. Its got a 26 inch radiator. It's stamped 26 on the fender tag. The car had a Colorado title when I purchased it in 2002. I think it spent it's whole life there. It's EF8 green with a white bumble bee stripe. Black interior and no vinyl top. It's numbers matching with the build sheet. Do you have any production numbers on the A66's.

If the car is a 1970 or 1971 model it will have 26 on the top row of the fender tag for the 26 inch radiator, if the 26 is not on the tag then it came with a 24 incher. I am not sure if 72 up models coded them the same?

Even some 383 & 440 cars came with the 22 inch radiator.

If the car came with AC or an axle package then it should have a 26 incher. Same thing for the A53 and A66 cars, it was part of those packages in 1970.

T/Ake care,
Barry

T/As were available with either 3:55 or 3:91 gears, but they do not list seperate axle codes like other cars. The gears and 26" radiator were part of the A53 Trans Am Package, so they did not list the seperate axle package codes found on other cars since it was automatically coded with A53.
