I have a vehicle order number on my 71 Challenger's fender tag, It is K00102 I have been told that the K means 1971, and the numbers I dont know. Someone said it is a special order for paint or interior. The car is B5 blue and the interior is H6B5 Brite Blue interior, however the headliner looks original, but its white, and so are the pillar posts. Can anybody help? Thanks!

M21 M25 M28 M31 N41

C55 C62 G11 G33 H51 J25

V1W U A46 A62 B51 C16

GB5 H6B5 000 827 K00102

E65 D32 JH23 N1B 119211

I know the rest of the codes, just need help on that K00102!! Did not find any broadcast sheets... Thanks for any replies!

Oops! I forgot to answer this one.

That number you have is not a code.

It is a Dealer Order Number.

It does not mean anything that I know of. It is just an order number from a dealer for that car. The next car the dealer ordered would have been K00103 I guess?

Nothing more to it than that.

You are right that it should not be white. You should have a blue headliner.

Thanks Dave-r!!!!!!!! I appreciate it. Some people were saying that it is a special order code that had special paint, etc...that's why I asked, but since its just simply an order number, thats it! Thanks! (You wouldn't be able to tell from what dealer or where the dealer was located with that number, would you?)

Vehicle Order Numbers (VONs) that start with letters do have special meanings. K was used for some (but not all) of the 1970 model Challengers with sunroofs. In 1971 this was replaced with a "G" though. Your car has a fairly early build date though, does it have a sunroof?

T/Ake care,

No, the car doesn't have a sunroof.

K prefix VONs were also used on some cars ordered by police departments, are there any unusual things about the car that might signify life as a crime fighter? Odd radio wiring, big antenna, odd holes for mounting lights, shot gun shells under the seat or ???????

Oh yeah, do you have a broadcast sheet for it? If so, what are the numbers in the boxes for the "Y" codes on the top line, there may be a clue there.

No broadcast sheet(s) in car, looked high and low! I emailed Galen Govier on it, along with a few other questions, still waiting for a reply. There's nothing out of the ordinary as far as a law enforcement vehicle. I think the car came with a Tuff Wheel on it, steering column is black, and the wheel appears to be original.

71 chally, your fendre tag does not show a N42.Did it come with the bright exhaust tips? I looked at a lot of fender tags and all that had the N41 had the N42.

N41 is the code for regular dual exhaust. This car should have dual exhaust with a plain (non-R/T) rear valence and turn-down tips.

Exactly, Jack. The car has a regular valence with turn down exhaust.

The 1969-1974 Special Order fender tag code is Y39.

Y39 occasionally shows up on a Hamtramck fender tag, but not always, it would be on the broadcats sheet for sure though with this car. I am not seeing anything in the tag codes that shows what make it a special order car though? Too bad the broadcast sheet is missing.

Barry, this car has a few things that would make me think it was a special-order car...... A62 (plus the N85 tach option) Rallye instrument cluster, P31 power windows, A46 moulding package, C62 Six-way seat, and the R35 AM/FM stereo radio were not standard at all on a JH Challenger...... just one man's opinion, for what it's worth.

It is a nicely optioned car, no doubt. But the Y39 / K prefix VON normally kicked in for something odd, like 999 special order paint, 9999 special order interior, something like that.

This car does not have anything like that listed on the tag, so it is a shame the broadcast sheet is missing. With it we would have a chance of knowing what was up with the K.
