engine serial # question

Hello,
I am restoring a 73 Challenger with 340. The motor isn't original (it's a 71) but I would like to know what it came out of. I would like to match it up with the original car if I could match it up. The stamped serial #'s are 2c166080. If someone could point me to a web site that has this info it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

The internet is clever but it can't work miracles! :D

All I can tell you is that it is not out of a Challenger.

The number you have ( 2c166080 ) breaks down as follows.

2 = 1972 model year.

C = Production plant (Jefferson Avenue, MI.)

166080 = 66080th vehicle built on the production line during that model year (1971-1972).

As there were usually several different Chrysler makes and models all built together on the same production line it could be out of anything really.
I don't even know what models were built at that plant. I only know it was not the Challenger.

I think Jefferson built b-bodies, so a 340 from that plant is likely from a Road Runner.

I have a 1973 340 block that came from Seattle years ago, I would be quite suprised if it matched your car, but stranger things have happened. I was told that it came from a Challenger. I will try and get to it so I can jot down the VIN for you.

I did re-unite a 340 block with it's original car yesterday, (1972 Road Runner) so I know that it can and does happen. :D

I know that polaras, imperials, and destos were built there.
