Three vin tags!

I have always thought that two vin tags were the maximum. Now I have found a ´71 Hemi Challenger survivor with three tags!
(See picture) Any comments, Dave?

It is a two tag car. The first tag is the one that says "Hemi Fender" if I remember right.

...but it depends on how you define a vin tag. My definition (until now) has been ´a plate of the same size with some kind of codes´.
I understand that you have another definintion.

The words "Hemi Fender" I would not call a 'code'!

Otherwise by your definition all hemi e-bodies are two tag cars.

One last thing on this subject:
A Challenger T/A (who has one separate plate with the word Trans Am), is that a one tag or a two tag car according to you?

Well with your definition it is a two tag car but with mine it is a one tag. I am not saying you are right or I am right it is just the way I think of tags.

To me a "two tag" car is one where there was not enough room on one tag to put all the option codes. In other words if you said to me you had "two option tags" I would assume you meant that it was very well optioned and not one tag with a very few options and another with Trans Am or Hemi on it.

I see your point and I guess you are right.
Anyone else who have any opinions in this matter?

If it is a tag the same size and shape as the other vin tags in the same location as the other vin tags then I would say its a vin tag. After all it is a identfication tag. But on the other hand there are no numbers on it. We need Galen Govier on this message board!!

Oh no we don't!!!

OK You guys win. It's a three tag hemi e-body.

Hey look. My wife changes her mind all the time so why can't I? Image

I tell you what. We will call it a three tag car with two option code tags. Hows that?

If anyone is interested in it, here's my opinion. A fender tag is called that because of where you find it and the size and shape of it, not what's stamped on it. Once stamped, it has information about the car and it is then screwed to the driver's side inner fender. That information can be option codes or anything else about the car, but it is still a fender tag. In a manner of speaking, it's walking like a duck and quacking like a duck, so I'm calling it a duck.

Just one more thing - if these are VIN tags on the inner fender, then what does one call the tag on the dash with the VIN on it? I thought that was the VIN tag.

Aren´t you forgetting the vin tag on the drivers door, Jack?
(If that is a vin tag or not..!?)
Suggestion: The Hemi Challenger above has one vin tag on the dash board, one vin tag on the drivers door and three fender tags on the left inner fender! Can we agree on this conclusion?
(I like the animation above, Dave!)

Well Christer. I can't print my real answer to this question. But I can print the first letter of each word!Image

H.G.A.F? Image

There is a more interesting question on my mind at the moment. Can I get my Challenger working and tested for a big meeting in less than three weeks? Image

Then teach her to weld/paint etc. Dave. If so ask her to weld a big thick peace of sheet metal weighting 250lbs so I be able to beat you at the nats Image Good luck & let me know how it performs when it's all installed.

I could have really gotten into this tag nomenclature thing and brought up that the "tag" on the door is a VIN decal or sticker depending on which clerk you ask, the "tag" fastened to the dash is a VIN plate and that the only tags in question that were indeed tags were the ones screwed to the inner left fender according to the California Department of Motor Vehicles. The problem is that we are an international group and the California or USA terms might not be correct in another part of the world. As long as we know what we are referring to in our conversations, all is well and we can happily carry on with our cars which is what it was all about anyway. Dave, good luck getting your car ready! End of the discussion, I guess. Thanks for your input. I do not think that this discussion has been useless even if there are more important issues around (like Dave´s car, for instance). Image
(Yes, I know that I got it a bit wrong regarding the word "tag")

I just wanted to post my opinion on this third tag.
I think this could be a plate that was mounted in Schinznach (that´s a town in Switzerland).
In Schinznach they even built US Cars (Mostly A-Bodies like a Dart).
They also did the import of cars.
When a car was brought to europe over Schinznach they mounted such a plate .
I try to find a pic of such a plate.

Intresting, Björn! The pic above, is from a Challenger (it looks like a js23 car but I am not sure).

Have you seen the "Challengers assembled in europe"-thread (You will find it in the general chat section)? Maybe you can add something in that thread, Björn!?
