Build date is 20th of august, isnĀ“t it Hans?
D34 means an A904 trans (if anybody wonders...)

I think D34 is a 727. I also think all automatic 340s came with a 727. If it was a 360 it always got a 727 in the Challenger at least. Some other models it could have a 904.

Dual exhaust was standard on the 340, however the chrome exhaust tips were not. They were standard in 1972 on a Challenger with the JS VIN, the Rallye. Also, Dave and Hans are right, the 340 never came with a 904 behind it. I have to check on one thing - I think V6X in 1972 was the black strobe side stripe option code. If I'm wrong about that, I'll correct it in another post. By the way, I regularly ignore my copy of Paul Herd's book as it is a sure-fire guide to losing points at a car show.

Thanks for all the information.
It is a 727 trans (numbers matching).
Yes, the strobe side stripes are black. They are original, I wonder how long a sticker can last, over 30 years now. The secret: climate garage, no winter use, no rain use....

I will post some codes from the broadcast sheet.

20th August 1971. Pretty damn early in production.

I do not have the 1972 MSRP (although Jim Wilson has? Hello Jim?) but I will try to give you some details on those codes.

Y14 should mean the car was ordered and paid for by a customer rather than a dealer.

D53 = 3.23:1 axle gears.
D83 = 8.75" axle.
D91 = Suregrip LSD
I think T86 are 14" white wall tires.

I am confused about the wheels.
W21 I though was the rallye wheels. Also W24 under wheel covers donates that this is a styled wheel that does not have a cover (I think!)

However your sheet also calls out for wheel paint TX8. I don't know what that is unless it is no paint at all. Or it might be the color of the spare which would be a flat black steel wheel. The spare code (W55) is for a body painted wheel in my options list.

C93 just means it had carpet rather than mats I think.
B25 = 10"x2.5" rear drums.
B41 = the front discs
B51 = power assist.
F12 = 41 amp alt.
F22 = 46 amp/hour battery.

L05 = Map light?
L11 = Glove box light
L15 = Ash tray light????!
L25 = Trunk light.
L31 = Fender mount turn signal.
L65 & L74 I am not sure about.

M05 = Door edge mouldings
M21 = drip mouldings
M25 = Wide sill mouldings
M26 = Wheel lip mouldings
M42 = Front end moulding
M85 = Rubber bumper guards

N65 = Thermostatic clutch fan
N51 = Max engine cooling
N85 = Tach

S13 = Rallye suspension with sway bar
S25 = HD shock absorbers
S41 = Rear sway bar
S77 = Power steering
S89 = ??

X21 = kilometer speedo
X66 = Export??

Dave, thanks a lot. This is very interesting.

Yes, very early in production. The engine must be a few weeks or months earlier. I will check the codes at the engine when the winter is gone.

The original wheels should be the Rally ones. The 14x5.5 Magnums now on the car, are fitted later.
The Y14 customer was a very small Dodge Car Dealer in Europe (other brands, too.), so Chrysler gave him the status customer instead of dealer, may be.
The spare wheel is black (glossy), just a regular wheel. When the car came from the US in 1971, the dealer changed the tires to Michelin 185 SR 14, because the european law does not allow E70 or similar sizes. So the dealer ordered the cheepest tires maybe, because he had to change them anyway.

Do you have informations about production numbers of the 1972 colors ? If yes, how many left the factory with the HT6 or T6 (Tan) paint ?

Best regards, Jens

I do not currently have any production number estimates (an estimate is the best you can get from anyone) for paint colours. Jack is working on a spreadsheet with some of that information.

All I have is the 1970 production percentages and some of the colors aren't listed. The figures are from Dodge marketing. As for any other year, I'd have to contact Daimler Chrysler to see if they were available.

If anyone has or knows anyone who has this infomation for years other than 1970 please pass it on to us.
