Dash Part 2

Postby cv70chall » 23 Sep 2011 12:43

We completed the dash reassembly and managed to get all the "puzzle pieces" of plastic parts back to where they belong. So far, everything looks good, except the side panel on the driver's side- that does not match up at all to the dash lines.
Could this side panel piece be from a different model year than 70? How can I get these to match up and not look like crud?

Thanks

Is this side corner panel different from 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74? It seems as if there might be some differences in the width of the moulding.
also, were there differences in the dashes between the CUDA and CHALLENGER? I used a dash core form a CUDA and the cap is actually a Challenger cap, so I'm thinking maybe the side panel differs.

Help!

Cuda is different I am sure. That must be the mistake you have made. There is very few parts the same between the two e-bodies. Windshield and inner fenders are about it.

Ok, so I guess that the corner piece is wrong, seeing as the dash cover fit (with some minor sanding).
I'll have to get some measurements of the piece and go from there.

Dave-

Can you or anyone give me data on the two different panels? I've looked and can't seem to locate anything- although I obviously need the right part.
If the dash is a cuda, but the cap is a chally- and it fits well- then I must guess that I've got the cuda part and need the chally part, right?
If so, does anyone have a reference part number I can cross-reference?
I'm getting close and hate this little stuff that crops up, you know!
Thanks!!

Looks like the dash pad and those lower side bits all came as one part number. I can't see a seperate part number for those in the parts manual. The dash pad part number depended on colour and sound system.

But they are different between challenger and barracuda.

Dave-

The dash core is actually from a CUDA that had a 3-speaker setup with AC. The cap I installed was a Challenger part and fit fine after some minor foam sanding on the top and side, but 99 percent of it fits fine, so it must be a different side panel.

Yes. I know.
I thought you were asking if the side bits had different part numbers?

I am saying i looked for part numbers but it looks like the pad and side bits are not listed seperately. The pads themselves all had different part numbers depending on options.

Not sure why you needed a part number. Challenger is Challenger and Cuda is Cuda. But you asked so I looked.

Your side panel is wrong. You have a 70-74 Cuda/71-74 Challenger side panel on your 1970 dash.

1970-1974 Cuda dash trim is the same for all years. The 71-74 Challenger trim is the same as the 70-74 Cuda trim. 1970 Challenger is different.

You most likely need to change both the left and right lower dash trim pieces. I can't see the right hand piece very well in your pictures from the other post but if it came off of the same car, it's probably wrong too.

The 70 Challenger trim doesn't have an accent line on the very front lip of the trim. The other years do. Did that make sence? In your picture you can see the accent line on the front lip. 1970 dash trim is now being repopped but I don't know how it fits.

My parts manual is 70-71 only so does not show the later years. But I didn't see a difference between 70 and 71 in there which does not follow what you are saying. I will have to look again.

Tony's Parts sells the 71-74 Challenger lower dash trim. There's a good picture of it here.

You can see the indented accent line on the trim pieces. I'll try and find the new 1970 parts so you can see the difference.

Here's the company making the 1970 only parts. Again, I havn't heard if they fit or not.

You can see that the 1970 piece doesn't have the accent line on either panel.

Here are a few pics of the 1970 Challenger dash trim. I actually bought the two lower surround pieces from Tony several years ago.

I have the correct right side piece, so it's only the left side piece that I'm in search of. Can't seem to find one from anybody- and paying $270 for 2 panels seems a bit expensive.

Yikes!

I may have the left side piece you are looking for. I'll check tomorrow morning. If I have it, you'll need to dye or paint it, as it will be the dark blue interior metallic that came with my car. It's yours for the taking if I have it.

Update: I just checked my parts inventory, and did not find the dash trim pieces. Must have sold them.

I'm still gonna throw it out there-
If anyone has one of these lower left corners, I could really use one!

Thanks
