I've got the standard round ball shifter knob on my center console (auto) and want to replace it with the T-Handle. Other than the set screw, is there anything different about the shaft this handle mounts to?

There are two different styles of the black plastic shift plate...the piece that the shift handle goes down into. In 1970 it had a round hole. 71-74 used a rectangular hole for the T-handle.

It is NOT an easy bolt-in swap from what I have heard/know.
It would be intresting to know exactly what the differences are.

Actually, the changeover is pretty simple. The shifting mechanism is the same, except for the chrome shaft that the shifter knob fits one. the shaft is rectangular rather than circular to fit the T-shift handle.
1970 used the round knob and 71-74 used the optional T-shifter. You have to change the shifter plate (obviously) and then simply switch out the mechanism. Everything else bolts back in.
I like the look of the T-handle, too.
