shift gate manufacture for slapstick

anyone tell me the link to the company making the shifting plate for challys with slap stick?....thank you..

Are you talking about the accual shifting mechanism or the chrome plate that is visable around the woodgrain?

If you want the chrome piece, www.beaparts.com has them as well as new black plastic slides and clear shift indicator lenses.

Dave, I just skimmed throught the last link that you posted. Is there still a discussion going on about the "slap stick" name on the shift indicator.

What I have read is that early 1970's had NO lettering at the bottom of the lens. Then for some reason they went to a lens that said "shift gate" on it but only for a very short time before changing to the more common "slap stick"

My 73's lens says slap stick on it.

My car was built in October 1969. My original shifter is stored away. I will try to remember to dig it out and see what that one is like.

If having reverse pattern installed in trans. How do i make the stock slapstick work backwards then? with slapping in the gears?
Is new "gate" necessary then?
Is new aftermarket shifter the best to get or is the slapstick good?

Can you have reverse pattern with automatic valve body, or is it only in fully manual transmissions this work?

Just a question after reading the articles from the posted links...
Is damaged sprag obvious or hard to detect? Can you have a crack in the rear of trans without seeing it?
Where is possible oil leaks most likely detected from? I have a leak that is hard to track for me so far. It seems to leak from the rear/ maybe middle of the trans. Not from the front.
(No problems driving)
Service manual tells possible leak "speedometer adaptor"..

another question: When having the backwheels in the "air" , the wheels are spinning even in "N" whats wrong? Have never noticed that the car moves on ground in "N" do....

About that last problem, I've seen it on a buddy's car recently. I can't even hold the wheel still when it's on the lift. But the car won't move on the ground. I first though there was a problem with the shifter alignment, but there's none.

Thanks for posting this quick replie.

Anybody else experienced this?

I tested that (wheels in air while shifting) to see if i could detect the leak when there was pressure, car was running. But did not see anything.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to do or your thinking behind it to be honest.

OK. I will try to answer.

Reverse pattern is not going to work with the stock shifter. Not only will the gear labeling be all wrong but the shifter will not work backwards. Which is no good if Park is where 1st gear used to be and the other way around. You will need to fit a shifter designed for reverse pattern.

The reverse pattern facility is part of a manual valve body modification.

It MAY be possible to have a forward pattern manual valve body but I am not sure? You would have to look that up.

I am not sure if it is the reverse pattern you are after or the manual valve body.

I posted this a while ago but forgot they also did a reverse pattern version.

I Blame my bad english, but my question was really if this gate is something i need to make backward pattern such as this to work..

and if the slapstick i have in my console is gonna work with this then? or must i press the button on the shifter each time i shift from 1:d to 2:nd and from 2:nd to 3:rd then? Do i need an aftermarket shifter to make it work?

And by curiosity, does this reverse pattern work only with manuall valve body? Never heard anybody use it with still having fully automatic transmission...

Sorry for asking, maybe a bit stupid questions i do not know really? :blushes:

Reverse pattern available on a fully manual valve body only.

With this gate, is it necessary to press button on shifter when shifting down, and just slapping when up shifting then? (as stock, but backwards-slapping backwards... ?)

I believe it will work the same as stock but in the other direction yes.
