HI, can somebody tell me the function of these things on my 73 interior rear passenger floorpan? Two box shaped brackets on eithr side (green arrows) and on the driver side another boxy bracket next to it, yellow arrow.

The ones with the green arrows probably have the seat back bolted to them.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Ta. Shows how long its been since i had the seats in it. Anyone else know what the other one does though? There is a hole behind it that goes through the floor pan to the outside world.

if I remember correctly- it is for the rights side exhaust hanger.

The green ones are for the seat back. The yellow one is for the exhaust on dual exhaust equiped vehicles. The other side has the hanger welded to the floor pan from the underneith.

On a single exhaust car(like mine) there are dimples in the floorpan in that area where the bolts go. I'll have to drill them out on mine. Also there are exhaust hanger brakets in the trunk floor too. Once again on a single exhaust car, the left side trunk floor just has dimples in it were you need to drill for the hanger.

At first glance it did look like a backup bracket for an outside mount. Maybe your car came with single exhaust then?

Just like the picture shows...that bracket is used on all Challengers with dual exhaust. It is a two piece bracket that bolts on the left side floor pan. It is different than the right side because not all Challengers had dual exhaust from the factory. There was no reason to have a bracket on the left side if it wasn't going to be used for anything. The right side exhaust mount is welded to the floor pan because every Challenger used it.

OK...it looks like I'm not 100% right on what I just said in my last post. I looked up a picture of my 73 and it does NOT have a bracket welded to the floor on the right side. I'm still trying to figure out how the right side exhaust was hung. What I think is that there was a small hanger that bolted to the shock X-member on the right side. Here is a pic.

My 1970 R/T only has exhaust brackets welded to the underside. Nothing on the inside except the seat mounts.

Thanks all for those detailed replies. Burdar, i think you have got everyone going out and looking under their cars. You are right, mine is a 340 Rallye with factory twin system. That bracket is for the LHS (driver side) hanger, although i am not sure why they went to the trouble of making up a box section just for a bolt? If they needed strength, why not just weld in another patch to make it stronger? Anyway, that explains why my 71 does not have one as its single system. My RHS exhaust hanger is not like that simple one you show on the purple car underbody. Mine is a complicated thing that sits just in front of that shock brace and has a double canvas strap hanging down.

Anyway, its solved that mystery. By the way, that gunmetal grey underbody on the rotisserie is an absolute work of art. Big file though! But plenty of detail.

Is there any way you could get a picture of your passengers side exhaust hanger for me? There's no hurry. I just don't think I still have the correct one and am interested in how it was attached to the car. Thanks

Sure thing, will take that photo tomorrow. Its covered in two coats of POR-15 and has coat hanger wire wrapped around it to support my temporary exhaust but should be able to get the general idea of it.
