need help with window glass installation

Postby davestoys » 08 Oct 2008 2:24

I have a 71 challenger that I believe is missing parts in the door for the window to track properly. We have added power windows but the glass comes up and jambs against the weatherstripping. It seems that the whole window will move in and out about a half inch. I only see the weatherstripping on the door panel as a support. It looks like there should be some window guides to keep the window from leaning against the interior weather stripping.
Does anyone have a manual or confirmation of this?

Thanks,

Dave

If you are intending to keep the car or do much more work on it you are best off buying a manual. It is very hard to know exactly what you are doing with these cars without one.

They are available on CD so you can print pages off to work with on your car.

Having said that I have a few diagrams and a parts list at home. If I have time tonight I will post some scans here.

I agree I must get a manual but I fear that the shop manuals may not show that detail. I did find an old post and discovered that the doors do need inside and outside window guides.
Having looked around I do not see any aftermarket units produced I and feel I will have to fabricate some myself. :(

Ahhh, the joys of owning and 37 year old car :)

I have the 1970-71 parts manual on my pc at home and it has some better diagrams in that as well as a list of all the parts. I will see what I can find tonight.

It looks like 92 and 93. I could be wrong but those seem to be the missing parts. I may need to just buy 2 complete doors and strip them.

Thanks for the post you have saved me much time :)
