What is the correct trim code for a 71 Challenger R/T with black cloth houndstooth interior? I have researched this and come up with 2 different possiblities, its either H5XX or H5X9. Both could be correct. I have never seen this interior on any other Challenger.

I found this answer in another thread:

Alaskan_TA wrote:There were four different H5 interiors available in Challengers in 1970, here is a picture of the samples in my trim book. From top left, clockwise they are; H5F8 - Green, H5B5 - Blue, H5K4 - Burnt Orange, H5X9 - Black.

1970 H5 Challengers also came with carpeted lower door panels like the SE.

1971 had a different cloth pattern and at least one color code was different, black became H5XX.

T/Ake care,

1971 Challenger: H5XX then...Or?

Mother Mopar has done quite a few strange things through the years, but swapping the well known (and logical) 1970 code "H5X9" for a "H5XX" in 1971 is really weird, if you ask me. I do not question this fact, I just find it weird. :s008:

The H5X9 code was used in 1971 for the Red/Orange inserts. I agree it is confusing.

Also, Challengers never really had a houndstooth pattern. The 1970 was more of a herringbone design while the 1971 was one of the variations of plaid. I know, who cares? :)

Not the best photo, but shows the 1971 Challenger code H5XX pattern;
