Carpet Q's

Postby Moparman1972 » 18 Apr 2008 14:04

I purchased a carpet for my challenger off of ebay and had a couple questions on fit. Maybe somebody who's done their carpet recently can help.

Where should the carpet extend to under the dash? Is it to the joint where the floor meets the firewall? Whats left of the carpet in my cuda does not seem to go beyond that.

Its a two piece carpet, so how much overlap should I have under the seats? It seems like it came with a lot of extra material front to rear. Where the carpet does go to in the front will help determine this, though.

Thanks guys, in the final phases of assembly now.

I'm sure mine was one piece. I have not opened up the new one yet.

I donĀ“t have much real life experiance, but I suggest a minimum of 2 inches. Hopefully you never will have to see anything of the floor that way. Preferably a little bit more, because it will do no harm if the overlap is a bit longer, or?

Theres plenty extra carpet here, probably 3 inches a side and 6 inches in length, so the overlap will definitely be more than 2 inches just to be sure.

Still looking for where the carpet actually goes to under the dashboard.

Thanks guys, big help as always.

On my car, the overlap is pretty thin (I'd say half an inch or less). That's not good, since the back carpet overlaps the front on at some spots (the front part is supposed to be above, it has the end sewn, wihch the rear part misses).

I have a 2pc, I didn't have that much extra it was an ACC carpet.

Here is a pic, should be fairly obvious due to the bumps countours and heel pad.

Thanks, the pic shows i did it right at least. The heelpad on mine seemed to be too far back, so I had my doubts about where the carpet should go to.

My carpet didnt come with any form, just a roll of black carpet, so I had to use weights overnight to get it to conform to the floor. End result after so many headaches is great though, thanks for the tips.

The overlap ended up being 8 inches, by the way, and thats with a decent amount of carpet going under the rear seat. Lot of extra material.
