73 Rallye Tripometer

O.K. I listed this question on the General Chat forum. Got some look's but, no response. Doe's anybody have any information on the Rallye tripometer's. I have one where the tenth's of a mile diget is white with a red numeral. So far, all the one's I've seen are white with a black number. Any idea's? Hey Dave & Barry. You guy's are Pro's at this. What do you think? :wink:

I think you need to here from people that own 73 or 74 Challengers.

I have never noticed this but it is also something I have never thought to look for.

I don't know if this makes a difference but, this is that Challenger that was made for Canadian Spec's. I'm still looking too.

My 72 challenger has a black tenths dial with white numbers, as does the extra 73 dash that came in the trunk. I've never seen a white with red dial. Could somebody have painted them on there? I know I touched up some numbers on mine when I took the dash apart.

Nah. That looks factory to me. Maybe a European export part? Cars in Europe often have the tenths white/red.

Ahem: I talked to some guy's at that other web sight cuda-challenger.com. One guy said that factory replacement speedometer's came with red tenth's diget's on the trip. Make's sense to me because, the first owner had the speedometer replaced at 1600 mile's. Like I said on the general chat forum, I have that tag on my driver's door saying what it is, and if it's removed, the FED'S are gonna come get me. :roll:

Kind of like that tag on your pillow, or sleeping bag. :shock:

Anyway, that's their idea. I wasn't cheating on you guy's, I just needed some information. I'm still not sure but, I think "Moparal" has the right answer. Let me know if you guy's come up with something different. Still True, Most of the time: PAT

Well we new from the start it was a replacement. But the question was why is the replacement different to the stock one?

Pat, i've got the same car as you, a 73 Rallye. My tenths are black, but all digits on the Odometer are the same faded orange as the orange on the tacho after 5500. Is this normal for the ODO. Not sure but looks like yours is the same?

Also, re your car- looks like it has quite a lot of options. Is that side protection strip factory? if so, is it bolted to the body through holes or stuck on? Also, was that rear deck wing available in 73 or was it put on after. thanks, steve

Goldenblack440; I've never seen any E-body tripometer with red diget's and a black tenth's diget. My car is a bit strange as far as the Rallye option's go. It's a made for Canada car, so maybe, that has something to do with it. First of all, It isn't an A57 Rallye but, came with all the Rallye option's. It is a #'s matching 340 performance package. The molding is original as is the side scoop's. Yet, I've heard the factory wouldn't permit both together. :?:

The scoop's could have been a dealer add on. I have not been able to aquire the build sheet. That would tell the complete story. The molding is connected by metal tab's that come directly from the body. AS for the Go Wing. I believe that was only offered on 1970-71 car's.Same go's for the flip top fuel cap. The go-wing was added by the second owner. I added the cap. Nice touch's though. :thumbsup:

Also, the challenger logo belong's in the back of the car, above the rear side marker's. I got them from the previous owner, and attatched them up front, my tribute to 1970. :mrgreen:

thanks for the info- yes i suppose a Canadian spec would vary somwhat. Just getting back to the Tripmeter- when i said the digits were orange, i meant the ODOMeter, not Tripmeter. The Odometer is the main one above. Mine has faded orange digits and yours looks the same but can't tell.

Those photos of yours certainly show the car to be in great condition, she's a beaut. The rear wing is def a nice touch- i have one for mine as well, and didn't know about the fuel caps for 73 either- they certainly went the tite-ass route with their later cars, eh!

I agree about the Challenger badge placement too, i'm doing the same on my resto. BUt i'm not using the Rallye scoop/stripes as i don't like them- i have a 71 RT stripe in matte black and removing the "RT" letters, leaving just the high stripe. See the pic, although that one still has the letters.

My Odometer and every one I've seen so far has white diget's with a black background. Maybe your's was painted up during a previous resto or something. I'm not sure but, your definately at the right web sight to find out! If your car was a 70-71 Barry or Dave would be all over this question. But the beauty of it is, is that there is a whole bunch of guy's and gal's sharing information here. Sooner or later, if you don't find out on your own, someone will pull through for you

Love that Sublime color with the R\T Stripe's :mrgreen:

Well Patrick, if you liked that Sublime Chall, you'll love this one! Its an awsome looking machine. Check out these strobe stripes against the yellow paint, wonder where he got 'em? They give the car a totally unique look- espec with the rear wing. Pity the pics are only small.

Just a quick Q about your car: Does it have the Positrac 8.75 rear (LSD)? What ratio is the diff with the auto? And is the 340 strong enough to spin the wheels in an impressive manner? Being quite a heavy car and a stock 340, not sure how well they accelerate. Then again, imagine having a 198 or 225 in it!

They are AAR Cuda stripes. But with what looks like a home made 440 bit stuck on the end.

Hello Again Goldenblack: Any luck on the rallye odometer? The engine in my car is original but, not completely stock. It was rebuilt at 68,000 with Edelbrock intake inhancement's. It has it's original 3.23 Sure Grip rear end, and smoke's em' quite nice. With a top speed in the 140's. Not sure exactly how acurate the speedo is at that point but, Quite Impressive! :twisted:

I have an idea about a carburetor change posted in another section of this site. Nice looking Challenger. :thumbsup:

But, I agree with Dave, AAR Cuda' Strobe Stripe's. It all depend's on what the owner want's. I made subtle changes with mine. You have to make it, "Your Own Car!" Just don't make it something that the Mopar Snub's will chew you up one side and down the other for. :roll:

But hey! If what you got is what you like, That's all that matter's! :thumbsup:
