You can make any radio/cd player fit as long as it is a "normal" size.

I made a bracket out of 16 guage aluminum to mate the Pioneer stereo I got for Christmas to the radio's spot in the dash...... bolted it in without altering anything on the car. Too bad nobody makes a retro-style AM/FM CD player.

I plan on leaving the stock radio in the dash for looks- as it will still light up but will not function.
Here's what I plan on doing.
ANY DIN sized radio will fit into the dash, but you end up having to cut and basically ruin the OEM look, so my options for you are:

1. Install the radio in the glove box. You can custom build a trim plate of ABS plastic or mica that fills the glove box and looks nice, while retaining functionality of the glove box door.

2. You can also install a radio (preferably marine-grade) under the passenger seat and install a wired remote display/ controller in the glove box off to one side (so you have some storage in there still). This remote piece emulates the radio display so you can see what you're doing on the radio under the seat- and you can also add an RF remote control so you can control things from outside the car ,too.

I left my stock radio in as well. But I mounted the Modern CD stereo inder the dash in line with my console. Looks good there and, I can reach it anytime.

Well the important part is not to damage the original bezel/filler panel,

I put mine in a safe place, just in case

I went to the local plastic store and bought a small sheet and cut it , and made it fit ,it almost has the same wrinkle finish,

before that I used some polystyrene plastic sheets,and then painted that with wrinkle finish,

Also if you do buy a new head unit be sure to get one with mp3 ,I pod, etc.,out put comes in real handy on long trips

I guess it's been awhile since looking at mine. My modern Kenwood is actually mounted right underneath the stock AM radio. The percecets are making me a little loopy. Just had hernia surgery and I'm not quite myself. It does look pretty good there, though.

I also mounted a modern Radio/CD player right underneath my stock R22 AM/Stereo 8-Track Tape using a pair of stainless brackets that use pre-existing holes. That way everything remains original and I can yank it out without evidence that it was ever there. Here's a pic.

Nice! I'm all for a clean install. That looks like a CDE7829 by Alpine. Is it? Good player! The Kenwood Excelon decks and some of the newer Clarion units are actually very well built, too.

Yes. It's an Alpine, but it's the 35Wx4 CDE-7826P model, that doesn't have the changer controls like the CDM-7829. I have had it in the car for over 10 years now, and it continues to work great. I can get a powerful, clear sound out of the 7 speaker set-up - 3 in the dash, 2 in the front kick panels, and 2 in the rear package tray. A slight improvement over the original 8-track.

Cv70chall: Only enough room behind there for 3 1/2 inchers. Got 6X9's in the package tray and the front-middle. And then those tiny side speakers in the Rt and Lt ends of the dash.
