Seat belt differences

Postby rockanimal » 01 Mar 2007 23:52

Ok, a lot of seat belt questions here lately. I guess that goes hand in hand with prices on e-bay, hehe...

Anyway, I know there's differences between A-body and E-body for example but what about the E-body differences between the years?

1970: "fliptop" beltbuckles with double buckles for each front seat. The ones that are getting a bit pricey on e-bay...

1971: Different buckles with a push button. And this is what I'm wondering: did all 1971 e-bodys have two buckles for each front seat and in the case, when did Chrysler start using the later style which sort of attatches the "overhead belt" with the lapbelt. Hard to describe but I hope you know what I mean. I bought my belts a couple of years ago from a guy that said they were from a 1971 car but now I start to think they might be from a 1972-74 car. Been searching on the numbers but can't seem to find any help.

Robert

My 1970 model belts have the date clearly written on that same tag you are showing there. Could one of those numbers be a date code?

Here are my belts. Not original to my car but they did come from a 70 Challenger. At least that is what my Mum told me. She got them for me when she was in Canada for a while.

The date is quite clear on the bottom. Not sure about the figure "2" after the year though. :?

If you need pics of the interior, with the seat belt configuration, let me know.

Those numbers are slightly different to mine. Plus on mine does 1969-2 on mine mean Feb '69? if so they can't be Challenger belts.

rockanimal. I guess that bottom line on your belts must be 1972. Possibly for 1973 models.

Yeah that's what I'm guessing too, they will do though since I just found out that they are OK with a babyseat up front for my two year old son. I went to a safety store where they sell all kinds of childrens safety stuff. The guy in the store just looked at the car and said nothing, then checked out the babysitter and the belts and told me how to attach the seat and so on, and I'm not sure that it would work if I had the double buckle up front. In the back it didn't work at all because of the lapbelts only. Jack (my son) loves it when we're driving in tunnels so the V8 sounds a bit more!

Dave,
Your date code of 1969 - 2 = 1969, second quarter.

I am not sure how the newer ones are dated though?

So that quarter would end in June? Does that make them too old to be Challenger belts then?

Hey Dave,
They are early for sure, but the seat belts tended to be dated early anyway. The one you show does have the correct part number as well.

Which parts were coded quarterly? Only the seat belts or also other parts? :?
