Brant, I applaud your honesty and you learned something. I had mine done at Auto Instruments. I also had the quartz solid state conversion done along with a hidden Electronic Ignition controlled Distributor. If I were going to keep it in a museum or somethingI would go with the original way. I wanted to increase durability and the electronics is a great place to start. I also wanted to minimize maintenance and tearing into areas like the dash and other hard to reach areas, which usually cause me to destroy something. Thanks for the results and dont be disappointed, you learned things I "learned" in the seventies!

problem with these old points clock windups is after a year of two of use the points get bad- the points if you could look at them under a magnifing glass would look like a bunch of jagged teeth. So what happens is instead of the points opening as usual- the jagged teeth stay connected- like clamping them together due to all the arcing going on.

I've tried with several clocks over the years to CLEAN the points so they are nice and flat but best I can remember that only lasted a couple on months and then burned out the coil as they stuck closed real good.

Thanks guys. Finicky things they are.

I'm happy now. It's all coming together now. can't wait to put it in the chally in the spring.
