Differences in light bars?

Postby Moparman1972 » 19 Jun 2006 1:23

Ok, so when I got my challenger, I found a million different little valuable pieces stuffed in boxes in the trunk. New ignition cylinders, trim, etc, but the most valuable find was a complete rallye dash and switch panel in good condition. I want to switch my current dash for the rallye dash, but I have been told that the light bars that go up under the dash pad to light the gauges are different for regular and rallye dashes. I didnt want to go through the trouble of pulling all the wiring apart and tearing the dash out only to find out that my light bar wouldnt fit now, so if anyone knows for sure if they are the same, please let me know.

Oh, also, I have seen mention of a light package on Challengers? Is this like extra interior lights? Because I have a crapload of them dangling by their wires from under the dash, and I'm not quite sure what to do with them. I know one goes in the switchpanel, but the others I have no clue, and the lights to my light bar are hooked up. I was just going to stick them up there somewhere out of the way.

Not sure on the light bars, I would think they are the same, since the rest of the dash is the same, and only the cluster is differnt, but Im not sure.

Yes, challengers were offered with a light package, code A01 on your fender tag or build sheet if you have it.

It included: Ashtray light, Glove box light, Map & courtesy light, Trunk light, Instrument panel flood lamp with time delay (only lights the switch corner of the cluster not the whole thing), and Ignition key light with time delay.

The wires might all be there for these lights already, you just have to find them, match them up and plug them in.

light bars are different--- 4 lights- one for each pod
3 lights- standard dash.

wiring is a little different- rally needs a tach wire- gray one in the wiring that goes to the - of the coil, need a red wire for the power from the 12 volts ing. switched to power the tach.

clock wire-can steal that one with a 1 amp fuse from the amp meter.

oil light on standard dash- need to change the engine sensor to one that will be a pressure switch.
some wires will have to be exended to make fit the wiring to the rally.

Thanks spitfire9137, 71 deputy. I wonder if it'll light up alright with the non-rallye bar. :?

I guess I'll try it, I have to tear the dash out for some electrical work anyways. And thanks for the info on the light package spitfire, that is definitely what I have. I was able to go out to my garage and match up every single one of those bulbs with their correct locations. Its going to suck chasing down those wiring problems......
