1970 rt/se seat confusion

Postby Matt6767 » 30 Jan 2006 4:32

I have a 1970 rt/se and we bought seat covers for it. We ordered them from year one that said it is for a 1970 rt/se. But when we recieved the covers the pleat was going horizontal, but on our car they are going vertical, what is the deal? I have seen the pleat going both ways, is their a option for that? Which one is the right one for teh rt/se?

Thanks Matt

Horizontal is correct for 1970 I think. Other years were vertical that is for sure.

At least I know all the vinyl seats were horizontal pleats in 1970. Not sure about the leather off the top of my head. But I am pretty sure they would be horizontal too.

Has it leather seats or not? (Did all of the SE-cars come with leather seats? I am not sure. :? )

I will have to look into it when I get home.

Actually the more I think about it the more I am starting to think the leather did have vertical pleats. But I will have to see what I can find out to be sure either way. Hard to do from here at work.

It is obviously no good looking at the photos on this message board for the answer. But the vinyl 1970 seats were the same as the first seats shown below. 1971 vinyl seats looked like the ones in the second photo.

Damn! I was looking for that web page and couldn't find it!

I just checked my info at home and as far as i can see vertical is indeed correct.

When ever in doubt about these things it us usually best to try and see if what you have is original to the car or not. Sometimes they changed suppliers, options or designs part way through a model year.

You had better have a word with year one about this. Or whoever supplies Year One with them.

Here's my interior fresh from Legendary, and it is an exact duplicate of the original which I stripped off. My car has got the vinyl/"salt n pepper"cloth covers, which was a credit option on the SE. (Leather was standard).

My SE leather seats covers are vertical and came from Legendary. I like the salt N Pepa however!
