Original Space Saver Spare Bottle

I had a question on a space saver spare tire inflator bottle. I bought one off ebay years ago for real cheap, thinking it was the correct application for my car (70 Challenger RT SE) The bottle was a longer red bottle but had the correct cardboard sleeve over it for the car. I see alot of reproductions that are a smaller silver smaller bottle that claim to be exact reproductions. Is the red longer bottle and incorrect part, I guess its not a big deal since I didn't pay much for it, but I would hate to put it in the car if it's no where near correct. Thanks.

I got some info on the space saver spares

The smaller silver can was the original from factory air can, there are only a few real ones in the whole world (I would guess). The longer red ones were given out when you used the silver ones and went back to the dealer to get a new one. Very interesting.

I found an intresting link on the net: http://www.arts-attic.com/automobiles/7 ... lenger.htm

Intresting that the car has got the red space saver bottle.

I also found this comment intresting: Note correct black steering column-they did not have red ones yet. I have been wondering about that before.

I agree. Maybe due to sun fading and/or dirt? The cracked rimblow steering wheel indicates that the car has been standing outside in the sun (collecting heat), as I see it.

I do not fully understand what has happened. Can anyone explain?
