Window Stain

Postby matt » 09 Jan 2005 23:40

I have my rear window out of my car and i was trying to clean it today. Around the edges of the window there is a foggy area. I think it may have been caused by years of acid rain or something. What ever it is I tried everything to get rid of it. Has anyone encountered this problem before? if so how do you get rid of it?
thanks~ matt :s005:

Stain

If the stain is actually on the outside of the glass you can use "0000 steel wool" with polishing compound. I just tried it on the back glass of my SE and it really removed what ever was on it. The glass looks good as new considering it was outside for 35 years. I tried several other cleaners first with no success but this really works great. Work a small area at a time until you learn how much pressure to use.
Good polishing!

it could also be what they call cloudy. this is where the two pieces of glass seperate and the glue becomes non transparent . this usually happens at the edges or at a star crack or chip.

matt, try pumice and a small amount of water, and a brand new single edge razor blade. The rear window will not have the 2 pieces laminated together.
