Hey guys I am getting ready to put in my rear window and windshield. I was wondering do i need to put my headliner in before I do this?

Good question! I need to fit a new headliner,but don't want to take out the screens!!!

Removing the glass is not necessary to replace the headliner. But, if you already have the glass out, put the headliner in first. I've found it makes things more accessible and produces a cleaner finish look. Good luck!

has anyone removed the windshield and back glass themselves? My car is ready for media blasting except for dash (sounds like it will be easier to wait untill the glass is out) and windscreens. The local glass shop wants 150.00 to come out and remove both pieces with no quarantee against breakage...

You can do it yourself (with a little help from a friend). You just need a couple of feet of very thin steel wire (a thin piano-string will do the job, you can buy it anywhere where they sell music instruments. You will need some extra lenght because it will probably crack at least once or twice while doing the sawing). With one of you in the car and the other outside of the car, you just gently saw out the windscreen. Good luck!

Don´t try to push the windscreen out, because it will crack! You need to saw it loose.

I would NOT go near it with anything metallic.

I used strimmer (weed thrasher?) wire. It is strong nylon cord and the more modern stuff is braided which helps it cut. It is cheap and easier to get hold of than piano wire.

Again it will snap now and again and getting it through the seal initially can be tricky.

I advised someone to use this stuff recently but the daft bugger then tried to push it through the seal with a steel screwdriver and cracked the glass. You just cannot help some people.

Use a popsicle (lollypop) stick or something non-metallic to push it through.

And another thing. When you lift the glass away from the car (with a friend helping) do not put the glass down on anything hard. It is usually OK to stand it on end on top of an old blanket or you can place it flat on a blanket but with the curve of the glass supported in the middle with something soft.

If you just stand it against a hard wall or on the floor it can suddenly break overnight.

Usually not a big problem if you choose to start at the corner (of windscreen) that is most infected by rust!
(Most of the cars have more or less rust on them, as we all know, ... )

I would agree with that Christer. But I have found a couple of times lately when giving advice that you cannot take common sense for granted.

I myself used a thin flexable steel rule to push the cord through. If it is the original seal it has often come away from the glass or metalwork anyway as you say. Usually at one bottom corner or anywhere where it is rusty.

Let me be more specific: Please, try to avoid to thouch the glass as much as you can, and never try to bend the windscreen out with a screwdriver for instance....It will get cracked VERY quick! To saw it out is the only solution.

and about all the chrome moulding? does it just clip on ? the rest of the mouldings unscrewed at somepoint although some in very difficult to reach places.

Yes they clip on. It might be a good idea to replace the clips while the glass is out.

If you have trouble getting the trim off the clips try sliding a bit of stiff wire into the clip to bend it slightly away from the outer edge.
