Dashpad Photos

I am posting some photos I took of my beat-up dashpad after removing it from the car.

They might be helpful to anyone trying to pull theirs off the dashboard frame (rather than taking out the entire dash unit, instruments, glove box and all).

I am not sure if it is possible to see from the photos all of the mounting stud locations. However, I believe I desribed them all in an earlier string in the Interior section.

You may find that a very small ratchet, and a high degree of patience(!), will help you if you get into this job.

At least one of the photos shows how badly my pad is cracked. One or two chunks of foam actually fell off, vinyl coating and all. Since I intend to glue a new dash cap in place on top of the old pad, I will have to reglue those pieces. My plan is to fill the large gaps and holes with a product called "Great Stuff", which they sell here in the U.S. in hardware/home improvement stores. It is a foam normally used to fill holes and gaps where pipes and cables go in and out of your house. Once it sets, it can be shaped with the same tools used to shape body filler.

After I use the foam, I will coat the entire pad with fiberglass compound and smooth it. I am not sure if I will use fabric yet. I want to harden and seal the original surface before putting on the new dash cap; currently, I can push my finger right through the existing vinyl surface and ito the old foam interior.

And if this doesn't work, I guess there's Just Dashes...
