My 1970 Challenger has a factory 5 speaker sound system. I need to replace the two outside speakers in the dash. I can find speakers the right diameter but the magnets are always too big to allow it to sit in position. Know of any place where I find some speakers? I'm not looking for anything high powered just something that works.

I think you might be able to have your original speakers rebuilt by anyone that does speaker repair. I have never found any speakers that will fit in the hole either.

Modern speaker technology calls for a big magnet. Your best bet is to try and find some old radio speakers that are still in useable condition.

I am in the same situation. I have been talking with some people who work in the audio business explaining the situation. One guy told me to look for a neodimuim magnet. He said this was very shallow and might fit in the car. Of course, they did not have one at their shop. He said that Directed Electronics makes some. If I find a place to get them, I'll be sure to let you know. Please keep me in mind if you figure it out. Also, Year One will recondition the speakers for something like $60 each. May be the way to go.

If you look hard and long enough, you should be able to find something that fits, but you may have to fabricate some brackets. Heck, I even managed to fit two decent Pioneer speakers into the single mono speaker space in the dash of my '63 Thunderbird convertible. (I admit: no Mopar, but there is not a single Ford-emblem on that car either... ) Unfortunately, the room for the radio/tape deck was very slim, and I do not have the stomach to cut up that dash. So the quality of sound still leaves a lot to be desired; I am not happy with my system from Custom Autosound...

I gave up looking for a replacement 10" X 4" front speaker, and made an adaptor. It sounds great, took me an hour to make, and will do until I find a correct speaker.

My dash speakers are as modern as modern gets, H-U-G-E bloody magnets. They fit just a trim and tuck in the console and whala!

Didn't know if the magnet size was going to interfair with the gauges etc due to the "waves". No worries though.


ps: Notice the little dent below the speaker in the center, dang resto guy done it well I was watching! LOL!! It will come out with some heat though.

If you're running stereo, you would want to install 2 speakers into that custom 4x10 plate you made. Check out the JL Audio TR350cx speakers. Quite small and perform well.
About $55 pair.
