I plan to pull my dash soon. I have the manual, but is there anything it doesn't hit? For example, do I need to remove the heater and cables? Also, does the guage cluster come out with it?

Also, where is a good place to mount an aftermarket tach? Right now mine hangs off the bottom of the dash with my aftermarket oil pressure guage, etc. It is therefore hard to see. I have the standard guage cluster. There is a plugged hole where a clock or tach might go. I was thinking of putting this or another small tach there if I can figure out how to attach it. Or if there is a way to put one on top of the dash, I would consider that. Thanks for any ideas!

I saw in a Mopar magazine earlier this year there's a company that sells a tach to fit into that slot so it looks like factory. It looked really slick as if it were stock, and obviously it could be seen easier than hanging off the bottom. Check out pictures of Dave/Linda's car, as he has done some very creative work on "their" car.

Thanks, I will. I checked out my manual for removing the dash pad. It looks like you have to pull the glove box and instrument cluster, and lower the steering column, to get at the screws holding on the pad. There is little detail on the location of those screws. Also, as I recall there are screws along the edge of the pad close to the windshield - I would think that they have to come out too... Anyway, I guess I will have to just take a shot at it. The manual does show that there is a metal frame under the dash so it looks like I can remount the cluster and operate the car as needed until I resurface the dash.

Hi Duane. I was thinking about putting a tach in my '70. Look at redlinegaugeworks.com. They show a tach and an oil pressure gauge that are designed to fit into the clock hole. It would be nice if the tach could be next to the speedo and move the other gauges down.

Thanks - I will check into it. Have you pulled your dash before? If so, was it necessary to pull the instrument cluster first? This may not be a big deal, I'm just interested in finding out how big a job this will be.
