A cheap (and ugly) rear leaf spring fix

The cheapest solution is most often not the best solution. As an example, I found this rear leaf spring fix on the net (on ebay). :s006: A pic says more than a thousand words,right? :| Do you like what you see? :?

.....or is this a common way to cure worn leaf springs? I have not seen this fix before, so I thought I would start a discussion and see what comes up.

Long rear spring shackles were a common "custom" touch in the 70's to create more "rake" to the car and to allow for much bigger rear tyres.
A car modified like this was called "Jacked". You talked about a car having a jacked rear or jacked-up rear.

They do not do a lot for handling.

That was very common here back in the 70's along with air shocks. Looks (and power) were all that mattered and, it was a cheap mod. Not really considered ugly back in the day however silly it may look now.

Plenty of Nova and Chevelle guys used extended shackles also, I think the rear valance must be cut to fit them on an e body though.

I'm surprised they fit on an E-body. I always thought the rear valance was tucked under the car too much to use those. I wouldn't be surprised if the valance needed to be modified on that car.

Yup, I also think that the rear valance on that car has been modified in some way.

The large bumper guards on a 1973 Challenger partly covers the rear valance, so the modifications will not be as visible as on an earlier Challenger (with smaller bumper guards).
