Rear Brake Spring

Postby cv70chall » 09 Sep 2011 12:35

I recently replaced my rear drum brake assembly and the kit I used had a different lower spring than the one in the kit, which I think should work OK. (It fit OK and seems to work)
I only have 1 of the 2 springs and need to find a match.
Can anyone offer up some ideas?

Thanks!

Did you get your spring kit from a local parts store? If you did, you should be able to go back and tell them your kit was missing one of the springs. If that doesn't work, you can reuse on of your original springs. It should still be good enough to use.

If your original springs aren't usable, any rear drum set-up from the 70's/80's should have a spring in it that will work. The brakes aren't rear end specific. I put the backing plates/brakes off of a 7 1/4" rear end on an 8 3/4" with no problem.

Excellent. I actually used the springs from a drum brake rebuild kit that looked different but seem to work ok. they're actually a bit more snug than the originals.
