Ok lads managed to get to the car today, absolutely cracking weather for it. Got all 4 shoes, springs etc sitting nicely. Bled the system from the furthest wheel and man the colour of the gunky brake fluid that came out....bled all four until it was clear and no air bubbles.

Didnt get to test it out yet..maybe tomorrow....I guess all the hard work is done now.

In and out of the pool on the last day mate....the water stripped away the factor and I guess me + the sun for 1hr 15mins = b-b-q Byrne. How you keeping Dave...hows the Chivvy.....

Ahh thats not that long , I have been in the sun all day forgot sunscreen and got sun poisoning

My natural wooly coat is good for keeping the sun cream in place.

I just polished the Chevy for the first time this morning. Being silver you couldn't see how oxidised the paint surface was. So I gave the whole car a T-cut and then a polish. It looks like glass now.

Then I took it out for a drive to Delaval Hall. It is only just up the road but the forecast was for rain from between 3-4pm so I wanted to get back before then. Didn't quite make it.

Took a look inside my master cylinder today after installing new discs and thinkin about Waynes brake job, glad I did too cos the fluid is a distinctly unpleasant orange
I think a good system flush thru is in order before the weekend, spose I gotta be nice to Carol otherwise she won't be my "bleeder"

You should have seen what came out of, my old 68' F-100 Ford! Yours looks bad, Ford required more of everything. including brakeline's, cyls', master. Not to mention the usual. Still cost me about $900.00, to rebuild! Cool thing about being in the States is, No oversea's shipping!

I replaced the Challenger brakes, the same year for have the price. No rust in the master,though

Ok Im with the car at the moment, cant go anywhere yet as the folks have stepped out for dinner and part of the deal of me getting to go work on my car today is I take the two youngest boys with me, so I cant budge until the folks get back to watch the boys while I test the brakes.

Well the chally starts nice and burbles away in the driveway, brake pedal is still a bit soft at the moment so Im going to try and tease that out, Id done a one man brake bleed so Im sure I havent done an expert job of it.

Gonna get it to a secluded spot and reverse it and jam the brake a few times etc...see if that helps

If they are still soft I will do a bleed again with somebody to help me this time.

i f the brakes are soft then you have some air still in the system , go back and forth a few times shut it off and take your time ,look in the master cyl. after each time and see if bubbles come up

Ok so I took her out for a litte rip in a nice flat area with nice staight run with a garage at the end of the strip, shes running great engine wise etc. Brakes are still very soft but stopping eventually so I wont be happy until thats sorted.

Is it a case of adjust the shoes further or still air in the system maybe both?

Oh and when I got to the garage I topped the tires with some air and the air shocks at the rear, up she went and down she went slowly, any idea what could cause the air shock height to drop so fast? I could hear a flow of air when I took away the air hose, maybe something needs to be tightened or some thing..comments welcome.

Sounds like air in the brake lines still. How did you bleed them? Did you start at the pass side rear wheel then the driv side, then the right front, lastly the driv side front. Press on the brake pedal slowly and firmly then have the bleeder screw opened after they push down. If there is air, nothing will come out. Do it again until clear fluid comes out then tighten the bleeder screw. Make sure the master doesnt run dry! As much 'crap' as you had in your lines will take some bleeding to flush it all out including the air. Take your time and have someone help you bleed them. The shock line is leaking at the line fittings or the line itself most likely. Backing up quickly then hard braking will self sdjust the drums,,if the adjusters are working properly.
