Found this piccy of a front drum assy circa 1970, shows a different self adjuster style to the one yoiu got, but interestingly the same as the new shoe pattern. Have you lokked at the other side yet Wayne to see if it matches? Just a thought  :?: ..........., can't get out this afternoon, the auditors are here and driving me bonkers, wish I was in Eire doing brakes

Maybe you can get the correct adjuster that will work with those shoes

Could be an option provided the starwheel and springs matched up I guess.

Looking at that pic Wayne it shows the adjuster just having a tang bent into the slot in the shoe backing, you may be able to replicate it, I'd still drill it and tack a clevis pin in there meself, will be a well engineered repair. By the way, you could still just assemble the lot without the self adjuster, just means that when the shoes wear down you'll have to pull the drums and wind out the star wheel yourself. Just a thought

So is the star wheel aparatus really required then or can one do without it?

some early brakes did not have the auto adjuster(I had a 41 ford that did not have them)

but this required removal of the wheel to adjust periodically :|

Remember Mini's ? the drums on them were'nt self adjusting, nor were a lot of european mass produced cars, I'd try it Wayne, then we can sort the adjuster out while you murder some Irish blacktop
