Disc Brake Upgrade UPDATE

PostPosted: 30 Jul 2010 17:28

The vehicle I'm asking about is actually a 74 Satellite Wagon. Question is, can we take the disc brake system off it and will it fit the 70 Challenger?
The only difference I can see is the K-member frame area.
Obviously, I would love it if the system fits, as it'll save us a load of $$$.

Help and thanks!

I'm no interchangebility expert but what type of brakes are on your '70'? If you have discs with 2 piece rotors as was standard on 1970 and upgrade to the larger 11.75 one piece discs as on the 74 it should just require the rotors and the caliper adaptor bracket from the 74 I think. In 74 they used the isolated K member so the geometry was different for the control arms. With this change you'll need the 15" wheels, I dont think the 14" will fit a 11.75 rotor. Dave will know way more about this.

Chuck wants to use the 10.87 rotors, he wants to retain the 14" wheels he has so I told him the spindles/steering knuckles on his drum brake equipped Challenger would have to be changed to the 73-76 A Body style or 73-74 E Body. He has a 74 B-Body donor car but it has the isolated front suspension so those knuckles cannot be used they are too tall for his ball joints. So he found a set from E-Bay from a 73-76 A body and with the Calipers and Caliper adaptors from the 74 Satellite he could mount the 2 piece 10.87 disc brake rotors and the Calipers on his Challenger right? But I told him the brake hose routing would be to the rear and he would have to figure out a way to mount them safely so they wont rub anywhere along the suspension travel. If I screwed up in my advice anywhere please let us know.
