any body know of a manufacturer that makes a wheel with 17 dia. x9 wide ,with 5 inch back spacing???, if so please post it here :thumbsup:

a 9.5 inch rim is just a little tight but yes i intend on going with atleast a 275/17 on a 9 inch rim all the way around,and yes i have looked at summit and here is what i like

I spent a pretty long time looking for rims, and there is a world of difference between the size you measured to fit and what the wheel makers offer. Same goes for tires.

Here's what happened for me : at first, I wanted 17" American Racing Torque Thrust IIs, as wide as possible (9.5" on the rears). Not one of them would quite fit or have the width I wanted.
Then I started checking what kind of tires would fit, and I had to rethink everything again. I ended up with custom-made Forgeline wheels.

19x9.5 with 5.5 BS works fine in the rear for me. 19x8.5 with 5.25 up front (I have a slightly larger front-end than stock with the AlterKtion engine cradle, so I took a bit more BS, otherwise 4.75 would have been good).

For 17x9.0s with 5"BS, you can find several steel designs by Cragar (those will not be hub-centric), you can also find some aluminum designs like the Classic 5 by Team-3. Wheel vintiques have several models they can do with custom BS - including the ugly enlarged rallye.

With 17" rims, you have a little bit more flexibility than I have, and you may be able to install 275s on 8.5" wide wheels.

But make sure you find the tires first.

The ideal size in 275 for 17" tires is 275/50R17 (close to the same diameter as the OEM wheels).
I didn't not find a single tire available in that size. Some in 55 series (mostly truck tires), not a single one in 45.

On the other hand, a search for high-performance passenger car tires in 275/45R18 brings on some good ones (Bridgestone RE50s, Continental ContiSportContact2 & 3, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3).

Don't get trapped needing a tire which doesn't exist.
If you really want to go wide, you may have to aim for 18" (that's exactly why I ended up buying 19" wheels)

yes a lot of tiremakers offer some in different sizes will have more selection, what i want is a 275/40 17 and i can get it in a goodyear f1, so that might be what i go with maybe even a 285/40 17 will fit i know my tire guy he might let me try both and make sure,i will call some folks tomorrow and see, i will most likley go with the wheels from summit the ones i posted earlier,since that is aval. now and at the right price, ill post what i end up with

Ride quality is OK, although I'm known for making heavy compromises in that area... The tires don't cushion much, that's for sure, but they have no lateral variation when cornering. My rear suspension is quite soft at the moment, and I've gone to softer springs up front (220 rear & 450 front). I've got 350 lbs/inch springs for the rear that I will try next year.

275/40 is quite a bit smaller than stock wheel diameter (25.7" vs 27.4")

i know like you said there are no 50 series tires in that size,its about all i can do at this time,the 275 will be bigger than what i have now which is 24 inches in diameter ,that is why i would like to see if i can get a 285/40 17 it measures25.98 inches ,still a full inch from stock but i will make some calls today, as you know these dimensions vary from different tire makers :thumbsup:

Look at the "specs" tab on tirerack.com when you' have selected a tire, that will give you the section width (and measuring rim size).

yes i am considering wider wheels, i did call budnik the makers of my wheel they can re-rim it for 300 bucks a wheel,i also have a line on some minilite type wheel , but i havent decided what to do just yet, but thanks for the compliment on the wheels,they are kind of like new shoes ,i like to change them from time to time :s024:

I like the look of your wheels, but for that cost of re-rim them it is stupid huh(?) I like them wheels you posted... looks okey.. But on your black beauty, it should be cool with chromed wheels aswell?

I recognize the feeling do... I some times feel i would like to try another setup... Or just smooth outh the space inside the fenders with spring shackles. The wheels are just a tiny bit from make the car possible to drive lower then i do right now in the rear..
In very hard bounces it could touch my tires slightly enough to make it wrong. Should need half an inch more backspace really (New setup of wheels maybe), but then i would loose my "deep look" outside of the wheels... I do not want that...

But hey, "close counts" or what? :s006:

yea its a dilema,im just not sure what to do yet,my re rim price was a little off ,its 1400.00 bucks to do it and it takes 2 to 3 weeks,the actual wheel is 448.00,with a special charge to make it a 9 inch rim and that price is 200 bucks a wheel,thats brain damage money for an inch

,i will always keep these wheels as my wife has dibs on them for her cuda, so i can always put them on just for fun ,im just taking my time for now i dont want to make any rash decisions yet :nod:

i have always wondered what it would look like with some darker wheels,a little more sinister look :s003:
