Race tires - supplier in UK?

Postby fbernard » 08 Jul 2009 14:10

Hi all,
I'm going to need a pair or slicks in a hurry (well, actually, sometime at the end of the month  ), and I'm considering getting them from UK.

More precisely, if I could find a good dealer who can arrange a pair of 15x10 wheels with a pair of 28x10 tires and deliver them mounted and ready to use at Santa Pod on friday morning (or not too far away from the track, like Geoff Hauser's place), that might be perfect.

Anybody here would recommend a dealer?

I am probably going to sell my 10x15 Rallye wheels mounted with 28x10 slicks once I have finished with them at the Nats.

A guy called Mal Birb owns this company http://musclecartechnology.com/

...but also owns a place called Darlaston Tyres.

He will aslo be at the Nats with at least one car.
Might be worth a try. birdy2005@blueyonder.co.uk

There is also a MMA member called Daniel who designes websites http://frozenmist.co.uk/
and has been doing some work for a company called Sinton Tyres http://www.sintontyres.co.uk/

Don't think they do slicks though but again it might be worth asking.
Daniel's email is mmassoc@frozenmist.co.uk

If you want M/T slicks then your in luck since Mickey Thompson has a European distribution centre in the UK. This has brought the price of M/T slicks down a lot. Whoever you get them from the price is roughly the same, there may be some savings to made on shipping however.
This is the guy (Lee) I've bought M/t's from recently.

http://www.laracingparts.com/

Lee has an excellent listing including prices and can get any tyre listed in the M/T catalogue some quicker than other's however.

Hope this helps

How old are the tires, and what's the BS on the wheels?

I knew about Geoff, since I already bought some parts from him, and he's pretty close to the track (most of us French guys know only of this one English parts dealer anyway, at least at the French Connection).

Some guys in the French drag-racing trophy told me they were getting slicks from UK these days as it was cheaper than the US, so I'll give it a try.

Tires are probably going to be either M/T or Hoosiers, and I'm not set on wheels yet, but I have a pretty short list of 15x10, 5.5BS wheels that would fit.

Thank you all for the links, I'll go check some of them, but if Geoff can supply what I want, and deliver, well, I'm not going to look much further.

Sure you don't want to part with your wheels on friday morning, Dave??? :s009:

I will be finished with the wheels the Sunday lunchtime at the latest.

5.5 backspace. Slicks are about half way used right now. I already have someone interested in them but that does not mean they are sold for sure.

I don't want to have to carry them back home. So if I can find someone else that might want them I have a better chance of selling them.

Well, I'm going to give Geoff a call to see if I can get wheels for Friday, I'd really like to drive this time!

EDIT : no one can deliver that soon, so Ill have to share wheels with a friend (actually he's have to share his wheels with me  ).
So it's still open, though I'd like to have some light drag wheels in the back...
