I got a lot of my rust out by polishing the crap out of it with Mothers for about an hour a wheel. As long as its not all the way through you can pretty much get it back.

I think he should try with metal polishing compound like moparman say. It could work out well and it could be much easier with a machine.. You can use a pulley/caster with cotton or similuar soft material... on a drill machine... don't know the words here, but something like this

I see there are'nt space enough to my pic's comment's.. If you got "Autosol" In Ireland Raven? Try that with a cotton caster (or other soft material that don't grind the rims) on a machine, it could be worth a shot.

They were very worn, and had bumps and damages from schratching pavements(?) and maybe corrosive from the salt we use on the roads during winter...

The pic's don't really show how bad they really was, but you get the idea..

The first step was to grind the edges of the rim, to even the damages and then work with the whole rim to remove the paint & schratches.. I used grinding discs & machine to even and removing schratches. wire brush to get off the paint.. You can also remo

Then when i was done removing dents, schratches and paint, i was using water & sandpaper by hand (400 & 800) (It was lot of work, and this killed my neck and my back, i tell you)

The last thing i did was to paint the holes and gapes in grey/silver & polish with metal polishing compound, a product made in Germany, "autosol" i don't know if you got this product in Ireland Raven? But if so, try this and if you like use a machine with

I used the same type of caster as when you polish the car...
