The studs are on a 4.5" circle.

Why do you need 14" wheels?

The original 14" wheels wore 60 or 70 series rubber. A 15" wheel with 50 or 60 series rubber is the same overall diameter.

Use the little table in the maths spreadsheet on my challenger web page to work out the diameter of any wheel/tyre combo.

Hi... I have a 72 Challenger Ralley 340...
I'm trying to decide what size of rims to put on the car.

At this point, I'm interested in the magnum 500, fifteen inch, but I'm not too sure on the width of the rims. I'm looking for a nice wide width, and am concerned with keeping the car as original as possible in regards to height.

I am interested in feedback and discussion on this topic with other Challenger owners...
What do you think the maximum width is?

My e-mail address is crivers@shaw.ca

I like the Magnum 500 too. If I had the money, I would choose 7" in the front and 8" in the rear.

If you want the same size on all 4 corners you have to stick with 15x7 inch to be safe.

With a 15x7 inch wheel I would use 60 series tires with a 225mm width to keep close to the original tire diameter and look. Bare in mind that these wheels were only available in the 14" size on Challengers originally.

If you go to my main web page and go to the page linked as 'Auto Maths Spreadsheet' you will find an Excel speadsheet with a table on it that tells you how tall any wheel/tire combo is.

For example a 225/60/15 is 25.6" tall. A slightly wider 235 (as wide as I would go with a 7" rim) is 26.1" tall.

I had great 14" Magnum 500 road wheels reproduced by Stockton Wheel in California. They made them for me 14x7 all around. The biggest 14" tire you can find is a P245r60, which I put in the rear and p235s in the front. These are approximately a 60 series tire with width close to a G. As far as I know the taller 70 series only go the a P225 width which is a bit skinny for me. Going to the 15" size opens up a world of choices.Riz

What is the proper space saver spare tire and rim size for a Challenger R/T?

Did Challengers ever come with a full-sized Rallye rim for a spare? Or was the spare always a painted steel rim?

always a plain steel rim

So much for the "R/T Challenger gets 15" Rallye rims" rule. It turns out that my 1970 440/6bbl R/T came off the line with F70/14 tires and front fenders for 14" rims as well and it was not a special order car. Does anyone else have this on their 1970 R/T?

What rule was that Jack?

14" was standard on all Challengers including the R/T.

15" was only standard on T/A, 340 package, and Hemi Challengers.

I would love to know that but i think it is something to do with the way they rolled the lip.

Hemi cars had almost the whole top of the arch rolled back to stop the front heavy car hitting the tires under hard braking.

My mistake about the 15" rims on R/T's I guess... learn and move on. You're right Dave - the difference is how the lip was rolled on the front fenders.

14" rims with 70 tires and 3:91 gears is a tough combo on the highway!

Can't manage 3:55 gears and 14" ties...no thanks Rob. Can your car go 80 without redlining?

My car has the A32 option - 4.10 Dana rear end with F70-14's from the factory. I think those rims and tires will be for sitting pretty. The real driving will be done with 15x7's on the front and 15x8's on the rear.

It hits the rev limiter at 120. I dont drive on the hiway too much. I am a slave to the 1/4 mile.
