Rear Sway Bars - 1973 Challenger

Postby bradburm » 12 Jul 2006 15:50

I am in need of basic lesson in rear sway bars. I have a 1973 Rallye that does not have a rear sway bar. Would the performance axle package a36 have included a rear sway bar? If so is Yearone the best place to find one and what is the stock dimensions etc?

Anything special when installing? Should I take the time to change out the leaf springs at this time?

All help is appreciated, and any education is appreciated.

Assume I know nothing, which my wife says isnt hard to do

I don't think so. I thought they started fitting them as standard by 1971??
I could be wrong about that.

Any performance suspension place etc can supply one to fit but there are two ways they can fit.
The stock way is to mount the bar to the chassis and the ends connect to the axle. This is considered the best way to mount a sway bar.

The common aftermarket bars mount to the axle and the ends attach to the chassis.

It is an easy job you can do in an afternoon with the aftermarket type kits. I am not so sure about the stock type kits.
