steering box problem!

Postby rookie » 31 Mar 2006 14:31

hi i had to change the steering box in my challenger so i bougt a used box from some guy!! it looks identical but the axel were the pitman arm goes, is bigger on the new/used one!

i think all the steering boxes for mopar are pretty same? i heard its the same from 1966 to 1972!! so the one i bougth is probably later then 1972!!

so now i need a new pitman arm that fits the new box! and at the same time the car!

the guy said something about the box migth be from a late 70s dodge aspen! but he was not sure!

so do you guys think aspen coronet and others had the same arm??

and will a arm from an aspen fit a challenger!!

not an easy situation

thanks

There were not only different diameter shafts used over different years and models but I think they sometimes have a different keyway on the splines so that the pitman arm locates in a different position. Or that may be just the pitman arms that do that?

I don't have any info on what fits what that I can think of but i will have a dig around and see what I can find.

It might be a good idea for you to have a search around on the internet to see if you can find any specific swap information out there.

And i would guess you would need a pitman arm specific for the Challenger model. But i will see if I can find anything out about that too when I get a chance.
