front suspension issues

Hello,

I am in the process of restoring a 72 challenger. The car originally had front drums, that I am converting to disc. The car is up on jack stands, when I removed the front drum brakes rear plate (two large bolts), the lca dropped about 4 inches so that the spindle no longer lines up with the LCA. How are these two components brought back in line? Also, any suggestion on front shocks? The whole front end need rebuilt, so I am planning on buying a kit, any suggestions?

I am not sure exactly what you are describing but if you mean you have disconnected the LCA from the spindle (aka steering knuckle) you should have removed all the tension from the torsion bars first before you undid anything.

Remove the height adjusting bolt in the bottom of each LCA to unwind the torsion bar. Then the suspension is free to move around. If necessary remove the torsion bars too but I don't think you have to do that unless you are replacing the LCA pivot bush which I would highly recommend.

Thanks dave-r, that was the ticket. Any suggestions on the rebuild side? Most of the bushings are shot. Thanks again for the advice.

I have used a complete kit from PST and i am pleased with it. maybe it is not cheapest solution but for sure quite good. try www.p-s-t.com
