'70 Challenger Rear Sway Bar

Postby CraigRTSE » 08 Mar 2005 12:39

Does anyone have a pic of the factory rear sway bar setup on a '70 Challenger? I want to compare to mine to see if my setup is correct or not.

Thanks

The factory mounted the sway bar to the chassis with the ends attached to the axle. Most common after market setups mount the sway bar to the axle and connect the ends to the chassis. However there are now new bar systems that mount just like the factory did.

See attached pic. This is the sway bar on the car when I bought it. It bolts to the framerail, then links to a plate, and the bar hangs below the rear. Is this factory or no? I heard that the factory did not put sway bars on Challengers until March or April of '70. My car was built in Oct '69, so I'm thinking this is aftermarket.

No it is not factory and in fact it is not very well mounted at all.

Let me try again. The factory bar mounts up above the axle and is fixed to the chassis. The ends of the bar are then attached to the axle. Mounting this way does not add to the unsprung weight of the rear suspension.
