I know this subject has been discussed at nauseam, but I`m about to order the wheels and buy the tires and don`t want to get ones too big that will rub. I`ve read all the posts but am somewhat confused. Front wheels from Wheel Vintiques I`m thinking 15"x7" 4.5" backspacing, tires - Goodrich T/As P225/60R15 or P235/60R15. Rears 15"x8" 4.5" backspace, tires - T/As P255/60R15 or P275/60R15. The car is a 70` Challenger R/T 383 4-speed, that will stay at stock ride height. I would like to use the wider tires if possible, anybody see anything wrong with this combo?

Nothing wrong with it at all that I can see your fronts are a stock size anyway) but if you are going to fit the 275 wide tyres you really need to get under there with a tape measure and double check.
Use the wheel that is currently on there as a guide. Measure the existing backspace and add/subtract as needed. Then by measuring out from the sidewalls you should be able to see where the tyre will come too. Measure both sides as often the axle is not centered under the car!
4.5 backspacing or 3.75?

hi dave, here again a wheel-related-question...
I've finally found some wheels that I would like to mount on my challenger(Torq-Thrust II ), but they are only made with 3.75 backspacing... I know normally @ the rear wheels 275/60/15 only fits with 4.5 BS, but now what
how could I solve this problem?smaller wheels?does maybe anyone has an alternative?
ps : best wishes to you all ! may it be a rust free E-body year

But you don't say what width the wheels are?
To answer your question anyway I would have to get under the back of a standard Challenger (which I don'thave) and measure. This is something you can do yourself!
Read the last post I made before yours above.

it were 8inch wheels... anyway i measured it and it will not fit ... only a few millimeters to short... but i'll stay with my second choice, 15x8 rallye wheels...
but now an other problem... which one?
vintiques series 56 or 61 ?
i believe original ones must be 61'ers, but at
www.summitracing.com they're only offering 56wheels for challengers(5x4.5 inch bolt) and the 61 are only available in 5x4 inch bolt...
maybe order it some where else?
thanx allready

The two types they sell are the same except for the bolt pattern. You need the 5x4.5" that Summit sells.

okay, an other problem = the trim rings... not a problem for 15x7 wheels but are there trim rings available for 15x8 wheels?
does anyone know a place where they sell those?
thanks!

Nope! You have to live with a gap between the back edge of the trim and the wheel centre section. Not too bad on the 15x8s but you should see my 15x10s.
Shame isn't it?

Yeah but corvettes have a lot of backspace so all that extra width could be just at the back??

I just converted to Rallye rims from Cop rims.
I have BF Goodrich Radial T/A's.
- Rear: 275/60/15x8"
- Front: 245/60/15x7"
I have a stock rear end set up apart from the shocks (Edelborck IAS Perfromers) and they fit perfectly!
The trim rings have about a 1" gap on the back but you can hardly tell, looks good.

I am now fighting with wheel but as my car is disassembled i can not measure what rims will fit i have found on ebay cragar ss wheels with 15x7 in the fron bacspace 4`` and 15 x 10 in the rear with backspace 3 7/8 ``, i want to put 275/60 in the back and 235/60 in the front. the auction is going to be ended in 2 days so i appreciate your support.

225 60 15s and 255 60 15s combination sounds perfect and guaranteed to fit. I had that combo on 15x7" wheels all round, though 8" rears probably better. That would look nice and period aswel
Currently running 215 65 15 and 295 50 15 (a horrible and unmatched )combo and man are the rears tight!
NZ, Im surprised your front tyres dont rub, I had 235s on a Charger and couldnt get a fag paper between them and nearest metal work!

Nope, they fit so far. Haven't taken them out for a drive due to resto so I'm not sure on tire rub when in transit or full lock turns etc, should be fine as I had the same tyre set up before resto and it was perfect.

I didn't answer this one because I was unsure of the answer and was hoping someone else might know for sure. I would be frightened that less than 4" backspace would put a 275 wide tyre into the fender lip.
The only way to be sure is to measure or actually fit the wheels.

New to the site so here is a question that no one has been able to give me a good answer.
I have a 1973 Rallye that is currently running 15 x tires, the original manual calls for F70R14..can someone give me a good reason why I shouldn't run 14 inch tires as opposed to the 15 inch that currently rub in the front when you turn to sharp?
Should I go to 14's where can I find 14 inch mags..maybe like cragars etc and what would be the widest 60 series tire that I could fit under the wheel well?
All help is appreciated, just got the car...................

The diameter of the wheel is not your problem it is the height/width of the tire and/or the offset on the wheels you are using. There should be no problem at all in using 15 inch wheels and most people will tell you the Challenger looks better with them.
