I have a 1970 Challenger. While trying to put the nut back onto the steering wheel shaft to replace the steering wheel i cross threaded the shaft. Can this be repaired, if not what can I do. Thank you, Calvin

Depends how bad it is and how far down you damaged it. If it is just the top few threads you will be fine.

You need to run a die down it to re-cut the thread. If the thread has not been damaged where the nut seats you will be OK.

Thanks for the help, and it is just the tip that is causing the problem, cant get the nut to start. However, i'm not familiar with dies. Where can i get a die from, do I need any other type of machinery to use it, or is this a tool that i can get at a local auto parts store, thanks , calvin

If it is just the very top thread you might get away with a simple clean-up with a small file. Make sure it is not the nut that is damaged.
