Mopar Rallye Steel Cop Rims?

I'm looking at getting some slotted steel cop rims in black (of course!) does anyone have any photos of them on there Challenger?
I'll be getting 15x8 245/60 all around. 8) :D

only seen those type of rims of yours only on these Mopar boards- look kinda different and nice.

mine are just the plian jane steelys!!!!!!!! and of course the Holed cop caps!!!!!

Cheers mate, If I brought from eBaY they'd have to be perfect. Looking for new only because the resto is 100% and would feel down right wrong putting something on thats "cheap" lol!!!

I think there is a place on the west coast, USA reproducing them new. I'll see if I can find their number in the morning and pass it along.

You can get the Chrylser Magnum wheels in large sizes, more exactly from 14x6 to 17x8 ! This is intresting info, since I would like to have a set of 16x8 myself. Thanks! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was thinking the ones on the kit cars of the late 70's were 15 X 8. I loaned out my books, so I can't get any info. :cry:

To my knowledge they were all 15x7. :) Which is a shame because they need a hell of a lot more grip to get that power down off the factory floor. :D

I have a copy of a 1998 Mopar Collectors Guide magazine with an article on wheels and which look best on Mopars from various eras. It shows the kit car wheels as 15X8s and the cop car wheels as 15X7s.

The photo of the kit car wheel shows a really nice centercap with lug nuts - not a dog dish hub cap. It makes a nice effect; however the article says these wheels are relatively rare and much sought after by kit car restorers.

I am leaning toward the cop car wheels with some sort of center cap rather than the hubcap. I have not decided on black vs. body color (hemi orange in my case). The advantage is that the wheels are cheap compared to new steel or other wheels - and they look good. Of course if I come across a decent set of Cragar SSs I may change my mind...

Right now I am running 14X5.5 or 6 original Magnum 500s; they just look too small for the Challenger to me.

Cool thnaks for your input mate, that does sound very small for your E-Body........I'm going to get either 255 or 265/60/15x8 rear and 235/60/15x8 front, maybe 15x7 :? :D
They'll be black as my car has a white and black theme going on so it should look awesome. :D

I saw the pictures you posted of your car - it looked great and it seems that was before the bodywork you are doing; is that correct?

My car had near-original tires when I bought it in '95. They seemed extremely narrow for this car - although it was a lot easier to turn the manual wheel then! Even with radials, the wheels look both small and narrow. Perhaps I can trade them to an A-body owner for something.

In my case, improved wheels really will be the final touch - a suregrip, disk brakes, new steering gear and rear springs, body work and some interior work all still need to be done... (the engine and 4 speed are done though).

Also, after 9 yrs of owning it I am finally building a garage it can call its own.

Naaaaa, I wish I was doing it but this car has ALL been professionally done, not by choice but I need this car out on the road ASAP, then I will work on my own project. Either a 1968 or 70 Charger or a Cuda. 8)
I wanted this car to be done by pro's because I haven't done a project of this sought before not such a rare #'s car and being in New Zealand if you stuff something up you won't get another car........hard to find parts and shipping kills me.

Yeah, the body work was hiden by sloppy paint which can't be seen, it also had an ugly spoiler which I photoshoped out. I've got about 5 months maximum to go before she's all done, full 100% resto with $$$$ spent and things replaced with either NOS or Yearone parts.........can't wait 5 months away and I can't sleep so I hate to think what I'll be like with a week left, I'll be a mess! LOL!! :lol: 8)

Your car sounds cool, where can I see some photos? Is it on this site?
How far away are you looking for it to be on the road? :D


Or some main options. :)

My latest photos are 2 yrs old now but not much has changed - I will try to scan to file and post asap. For now I keep the car with a friend who locks it up out of the rain, in Baltimore, Maryland. I live about 55 miles away so I do not get to see it much, let alone photograph it!

The good news here is that I will get it back in a couple of months. I purchased a steel garage that I will bolt together - I am taking delivery this month. I have to put in a concrete slab first but I am arranging that. This logistical issue really is what has set me back all this time - it seemed pointless to fully repair the car before I could get it out of the weather, and affording the right house and this external garage was a long road. But we are getting there.

This is not a high option car - it is a 318 originally with 2 bbl, 323 open rear (but 8 3/4), 3 spd, no AC, manual drum brakes, am radio, no console, single pipe exhaust. It stayed with its first owner for almost 25 years before he (or perhaps a relative) sold it to a broker. I bought it at a car and parts show at Carlisle, Pennsylvania - this is a big car show mecca here on the east coast of the US. It was the only Challenger there that day and I had a mechanic friend with me who checked it out, so I got it despite the low options (and body problems).

Anyway, it now has a different 318, bored .30 over to 323 with significantly improved valving, Kieth Black pistons, higher performance cam etc. Another friend (the one who has it) built this engine to race in his 69 Cuda, but he found that a 360 was more competitive. So he sold this engine to me for a very low price (and helped put it in too). It has a 4 bbl Edelbrock carb and Edelbrock Performer intake, plus headers. I bought a 4 speed locally and had new bearings put in - thats all it needed. So far the performance gain has been tremendous - just with a small block - someday somebody has to give me a ride in a big block car -and I am very happy with the engine. I am looking forward to the other work too. A competent local body shop says they can do the body work for around $3,000 US but they have not seen the rust hole around the fuse box yet - this car rusted from wet leaves, not road salt. The back window area, driver side fender (near door) and a few other places are holed. I think the vinyl top has to go so the roof can be fixed too.

Anyway, good luck with your car and all the future projects too. Shipping parts is expensive within the US so having it brought overseas must really suck funds - but I applaud your efforts. Just for humor's sake, the most outrageously expensive thing I have bought so far, given what it is, is the pistol-grip shifter handle for the 4 speed. I bought it from Stephen's Performance in Alabama - well over $250 4 years ago! But it does look very cool - probably a lot better than the rest of the car.

By the way, Just Dashes in California now charges over $800 for a rebuilt dash pad. I think I may "cheap out" there and get a dash cap, and use the extra dollars on the rear end.

Yip shipping eats me alive, for instance, I'm needing bucket seats for my Challenger, no biggie right? wrong, the seats are expensive, usually around $350-$500 US But shipping is about the same price again! I've had two different owners of seats quoted at $1,200 USD!!! :oops: So I'm looking for the BEST offer and it looks like I'll have to bite the bullet. :cry: Oh well, I'm only doing it once, well......for a little while anyway. 8)

I feel for you mate, thats a fair drive 55 miles, I get upset thinking about my car in the shop and thats only 5 minutes away!
Sounds like a fun car, any plans for dropping a big block in or maybe another small block - 340? 360? The 318 sounds like it's plenty quick, light the hides pretty damn quick I'll bet! :D

Carl,

Since this engine crushes me into my seat when I hit the accelerator, I consider it done for now!

Time to get the body done.

My tech guru friends are going to scan a few photos for me soon - I will let you know when they are up so you can experience the sight of an orange challenger with a blue hood.

That hood was bent so there is another one on it now - which is so rusty it probably can't be fixed. I will probably have to get another one. Do not leave a car outside with parts that are not painted... Now you know why I need a garage.

These old photos will not show the engine compartment current condition; the engine looks great now, I have added power steering, and I stripped the compartment and painted it with semigloss black POR15. A non-mopar color but it is ultra practical. When I get the car painted I will have them paint down into the compartment somewhat as a nod to purism.

So . . .Whats up fella's? Spring is here and I am finally going to be getting started back up on my car - Duane, you going to the Carlisle show this year? Maybe I can give you that Big Block ride you are looking for by the end of the summer.

Carl, if you have the seat rails and know a competant upholsterer I may be able to help you out with seats. I replaced mine with fiberglass bucket's and no longer need the original 71' seats, but they are in bad shape and I used the original rails on the new buckets. (Duane maybe you recall their condition?) ~ The drivers side is the worst off. Shipping is going to be astronomical for seats in poor condition but let me know if you want em. Also, are you geographically near Christer? I have a fuel filler tube I think he wanted some time ago but I dropped the ball because of how ridiculous the cost of shipping was going to be.

By the way ~ a garage makes all the difference in the world ~ UNTIL YOU MOVE!!! It's way to convenient to store boxes "until I get around to unpacking them" that ultimately take over and you are left with no room and no time to complete more important projects! I threw out a LOT of parts during that move too! but apparently not nearly enough.

I do not think it is possible for Carl and Christer to be physically further apart on this planet! Carl is in New Zealand and Christer is in Sweden. Exact opposite sides of the globe!

Since we didn´t make it all the way with the purchase, I bought one fuel filler tube from ebay (Canadian seller). I paid $40.00 for the tube and $40.00 for the shipping (some kind of express delivery, it took less than 10 days to get the tube). Not exactly what I would call a bargain but I am satisfied to have one now. Guess what? Only a couple of weeks after I bought the tube, I found one for sale here in Sweden.....(Laugh). The swedish tube was a bit more expensive but the shipping would have been less.

Here is my attempt to finally get my car up on the site. Let's see if it works.

These pix were taken in 1997 but the car looks the same except it no longer has the two-scoop hood. You can see that it is bent due to an accident before I got it. Like I said, I still wish I kept it just to keep the rain off and preserve the current hood, which is deteriorating.

I did not bother with engine compartment photos - I will take some new ones and post them later this summer.

I plan to paint it the original hemi orange color. I think I have settled on new cop car wheels of the same color, 15X7 up front and 15X8 in the back. This should look good, and save dollars I can put into a sure grip rear end, and maybe new rear springs. The car looks like it is leaning a bit to one side here; that has been corrected via a torsion bar adjustment. It also has new shocks now which really help - I think the originals were on it until last year!

The "stellar" original 14X5.5 magnum rims will be a for-trade item in the near future. Maybe I can trade them to an A-body guy for something really cool, perhaps a hat.

I am building that 1/24 scale metal body Vanishing Point Challenger. Since I know so much about the Challenger engine compartment now and there are many great photos available, I am super-detailing it. It is an excellent kit. Of course it will look far better than my real car (and of course it will be the kit 440).

Jonny, I want to but cannot go to Carlisle unless I go on Friday April 30. We are working Saturday and Sunday...

But thanks for the invite. IF you can go Friday I may be up for it. And I definitely would like to see your car asap. I am glad to hear it is running. I still have your original steering on my car and still plan to trade it back - I just don't know if I can pull that off by Carlisle as the car is not at home.

I am in Thurmont MD now - that is practically on your way.

Carl, thanks for starting this string, you definitely gave me some good ideas on the wheels.
