Hoosier radials

I'm thinking about new tires as the existing are kind of wearing out. So I was looking for appr. 29" tall tires.

These came up after some searching/comparing:

Anybody ever seen how these fit on a 8" rim? For racing I have Hoosier 26x9.5x15 and they look completely ugly on a 8" rim, but they do the job so that's OK. It's because of the tread width is 9.5 and the sidewall (which is always something wider) starts 1" from the outer diameter. This makes it look kind of silly but as said that doens't matter for racing purposes.

But the above I want for streetuse so this has to look good also. They say all of these fit an 8" rim, but how do they fit... The dragradial will fit good, but I like the racy look of the raised white Hoosier letters :? thx!

Those first two are slicks Hans.

If you look at the first photo I have of me and my car in the "Photos" section you can see my racing slick quite well. That is a 10 inch wide slick on a 10 inch wide wheel. I think it best to match the wheel sizes with slicks but sometimes you have to compromise.

With street treaded radials I think you should aim for a tyre no more than 1.5 inches wider than the wheel.
This is what I did on my street wheels. The rear BFG radials are 11.5 inches wide on 10 inch wheels. The front wheels are 9.5 inches wide on 8 inch wheels. By using 50 series on the rear and 60 series on the front I even got the tyre diameter the same front and back. I think they look OK.

The BFGoodrich dragradial will fit a 8" rim, a buddy has them under his runner and fits nicely on the rim. Also I should be able to fit them under/inside the fender when the lips are rolled. (like yours are) A 295/8" gives about the same total width as a 275/10" I think. The height of these tires will give me a more comfortable rpm to cruise around. Or to change to an even shorter ratio... :shock: Plus these goodriches gives better traction then the existing coopers off course.

BTW, yeah yours look OK :)

I guess they mean they are not cross-ply slicks?

The Hoosiers you want are the "Quick Time's". These have a good tread but wear out real quick. Like REAL quick. Same with the Comp T/A drag radial.

The quick time pro's are more like a slightly grooved slick and should not be used on the street. Plus they are not legal in many European street tyre competitions.
