What's the correct way to remove the woodrim steering wheel out of me Dodge, without damaging it? I'm assuming you carefully remove the black plastic centre sections to reveal the nuts underneath- is this correct?
Are these worth anything, it's original and in good condition?
Thanks
Tim.

There are screws on the back of the spokes. Remove them and the plastic pads come off. Then disconnect the horn.
Down inside the centre of the wheel you will find one large nut holding the wheel to the steering shaft. Remove that nut.
Now you need to pull the wheel off from the steering shaft. You cant use force without damaging the collapsable parts of the steering column. You need to make or borrow a puller.
There are two threaded holes either side of the threaded shaft. Find a couple of bolts that fit in them. You also need a heavy metal plate that will sit in there over the end of the shaft that the two bolts will pass through so that as you tighten the two bolts they pull the steering column up off the shaft.

TED YOU ARE RIGHT!
Sorry Tim. I remembered wrong! The steering wheel just comes off with screws. It is the bit under the wheel and above the flasher switch that needs the puller!
My memory just gets worse every day!

Just a quick follow- up.....
Steering wheel came off exactly as described, thanks again.
Just got to puzzle out how to mount the new one on the existing hub, without resorting to butchery.
Are the woodrim wheels worth much in the second- hand market?

How do you fit the wheel back on the steering shaft if it required a puller to get it off?

The nut in the center that holds it in place will pull it down when you tighten it.
Remember. It is not the wheel that needs the puller. It is the section behind the wheel that covers the turn signal switch.

I do not know if you are familiar with a Mopar muscle-article named "Column right"? It is a 4-pages/24 pictures article that covers a rebuild of a steering column. If anyone is intrested, I can scan it and send it to you. It may give some helpful hints...
